Fuzzy, lavender is actually a genetic color, also (although confusingly) called "self blue". As opposed to a pattern. To get lavender birds you have to start with birds carrying the lavender gene (lav, the recessive form, codes for lavender, while Lav, the dominant form, will not be lavender). Both parents must carry the recessive lav gene for the offspring to be lavender.

Just a common English sparrow.

Are you sure it wasn't a European sparrow? ba-dum-ba!

Resizing photos is possible if you edit the image tag and add the height or width attribute. If you just add one of the elements, say width, your picture will be re-sized proportionally. I just added the width attribute to my re-sized pic. Click the Source button at the top of the editor to view/edit your new post in HTML mode.

Here is the code for the smaller image on the top.

<img alt="386336_1607503603628_1717333457_860828_748811307_n.jpg" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/image/id/6066162/width/600/height/375" width="400" />

This is the code for the larger image on the bottom. It does not contain the width attribute so it is full size.

I won the auction- Didnt end up paying too much for the eggs, though the thought of losing really gets to me, so i COULD have...

So, Silkie eggs will be here Friday or Saturday...+/- Therons' duccle eggs, giving me a hatch date somewhere around Valentines day...aww..

if Little One doesn't grow, she will have some friends, lol.
I just put pine shavings in her cage for the first time. I have had her only on paper towel until today. I thought it time to give her something to scratch in. The very first thing she does when I fill her food dish is jump in and scratch all of it out. So guess what she did when I returned her to her cage with pine shavings?

jumped in her food dish and scratched it all out!!!

What a day! My heater control took a crap on my jeep. SO, no matter how many time i flip the control up and down to get it to work... ITS BROKE! I have to take of the front part of the console, get the lever from behind and reattach it to the blower control. Blast... Then to top it off, someone got me sick.

Such a crappy day. I am naughty on top of it all, because I did no do one of my jobs today. I picked them upm (flashes) and called in told them I was to sick. I swear, I have paid my dues already to the porcilean god. I'd ask for a refund, but I don't think I want that particular refund.

I took some new pictures of Fiametta. Turns out that she is quite the camera girl. She's very friendly, my 6 year old was even able to pick her up! Jace liked her name as Fiametta, not to cool with Freelo. LOL

I will get the pictures up later.

HEY! what do I need to look for in candling? Today is day 8.

OH and my evil hen, get your hands away from me or I will kill you, hen... I am going to scream at you if you don't get away me... What the H*(( do you think you are thinking, hen... Well, that one went broody. SO, not only do I think she has the begining of wry neck, she is also sitting on all the eggs in the nest box in the coop, and is even pecking violently at any of the other girls if they even TRY to get in the box with her. Did I mention she is mean? Yeah... SO, now I get to try and treat her for the wry neck and watch her try and hatch 4 eggs... Sheesh. I am going to be so over run with babies! OMG! So, do I try and break her? How do I get the pro vi sol into her when she won't let me touch her. DID I MENTION SHE IS VERY MEAN! SO, yea...

Mornin!

DH woke up at 3 am...stomach hurting...flu going around. Not sure if he has the flu or if it was smoking a cigar at friends last night. He hasn't had a cigar in over a year and maybe that did it.
I went back a couple of pages to try to get an idea of what is happening in Mi. Cute baby chicks...forget who they belong to...maybe Nova?

During the snow storm here (7 inches) two days ago...I moved the flock to the RV. No heated water..no light...in preparation for the flock sittters care. Still got my usual two eggs. A lot of natural light comes in all the windows so hopefully that will help keep them laying. I was contacted by Brkuk (Mi. breeder of Marans, Ameracaunas and a couple of other breeds...he just put the eggs into the bator for me. I'm getting marans and lavender Ameracaunas (6 total). I thought when I ordered them I was selling my flock due to the Florida trip. I ended up keeping my flock so when I pick up the new girls in May I will keep them in the RV coop on the far side of the field away from my old flock until 30 days pass to ensure that there is no cross contamination of anything they could have.

I believe we will be moving back to Florida in the next year. I love this place and Michigan too but after 30 years of living in Florida...we just can't adjust to the harsh winter. 4 days ago DH took a sled down a seasonal road to pick up a deer carcass he saw to use for coyote bait. The road was so icy and slippery he had a hard time walking and not falling (he has already fell 5 times this winter!). A steep hill had the sled sliding into his ankles so he thought..."heck..I'll just climb in and slide down the base of the hill". Well...it went really fast on the ice...hit dirt on the side of the road...he went flying and came home with a gash going down the side of his face ..about 5 inches long. Blood everywhere. Yuck. He should have had stiches but he wouldn't go so he will have a "pirate -looking" scar I believe. Last year I fell on the running board of the truck due to ice and cracked my ribs. It is DANGEROUS in the winter with snow and ice. When we see people older than us driving and walking around in the winter...we wonder how they do it. Obviously we got "soft" living in Florida!

Well....good luck with all those incubating eggs now...wish I could join in. Have a nice day and be careful on the roads and walking around Danger lurks everywhere!

(shades in prep for Florida trip!)

Fife - I'm glad your husband didn't get hurt more seriously. I don't want to see you move to Florida because then you'll be on the Florida Thread and not ours! Of course, you could just stay on ours. The people in Florida won't even know you're there if you keep your mouth shut. I so wish I could move with you though. Do you think your DH would mind an extra woman, 3 dogs, 3 cats, a macaw and 15 chickens coming along? I HATE winter and cold and don't know how I ever ended up in this frozen state. Well, actually I do. My Dad moved us here from Missouri when I was 5 years old WITHOUT asking my opinion, I might add. I would love to live in a state that has 72-78 degree weather with no humidity all year round! Don't get me wrong, I love Michigan, just not in the winter. It could be winter from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 and then go back to summer and I'd be happy.

Looks like we are at 3100 pages, wow what a social group

I an still struggling with getting pictures into posts on my droid. Can you all see this? It is one of my pileated visitors.

Mutt - I love those pileated woodpeckers! I have one visit me several times a year and once he/she brought a friend along. So amazing to see them.

RaZ - Thanks for the tip on making multi replies!! Hey, if I move to Florida with Fife you could buy my house! It sits on 5 fenced acres with a 1/4 acre pond, many huge trees and a deluxe chicken coop! You wouldn't be an outlaw here and my neighbors love to hear my roosters crow! Interested?

Mom - I love your little guy! As sad as it is to have an only chick, it is so fun to fuss over them!

I have collected all my eggs and got out the incubator. I'll start it up tonight so that by tomorrow it should be up to temp. I only want to try 6 eggs thinking I'll end up with about 4 hatching. I have one each from a Cochin, Welsummer, Salmon Faverolle, Maran, Ameraucana, and Polish. My WCB Polish I wanted to hatch from is of course the one laying the torpedo eggs, so I'm not sure who's egg I ended up with. I will stalk the hens again tomorrow before I set them, hoping to get a WCB egg. My Welsummer, Ameraucana and Polish could all be full but the others will be some mutt variety. I have to say my last batch of mutts were just adorable and are very reliable egg layers.

My DH says "I thought we weren't going to have chicks in the basement again?" "But I really need to test my incubator before I buy some eggs......I don't want to waste money if the incubator doesn't work.......and there are only six.......they won't all hatch......and it's only till they get feathers......."

Oh, Chickmate...I forgot to mention, I cannot be expected to follow you around the continent..so, you have to stay put.
ANNNDD- you have a macaw? No wonder why I am following you! I love them- dont like gettin bit by them when i have to trim their wings or beak, or nails, but I do indeed love them.
How old is your macaw? What kind do you have?
