Grumble...That gooser face says grumble in capital letters.

Hey, does anyone know if they treat commercial Christmas trees with anything that would be harmful to chickens or geese? Ours still looks mighty swell in our living room, thanks for asking, but I am thinking when it is past its prime (no really, it's still in its prime. Like me!) I might throw it out as a windbreak. But any chemicals I should worry about?

Amazing how plant seeds soaked in hot water can make the morning seem like something to be enjoyed. Wish I didn't wake as early as I do but rather than complain I try to just be thankful that I did wake up.

I had intended to go fishing on the Huron River this morning but last night when my friend called and asked if I thought we should still go I opted out. The fore-casted high winds and rain didn't sound conducive to an enjoyable afloat. While I haven't bothered to look outside yet it seems I've made the right choice.

Yesterday, when gathering eggs, I found an egg in the bantam coop that I didn't need to spin to determine that it was frozen. It had split longitudinally so there was little doubt. Given how few eggs my birds have produced lately I had to chastise myself for having overlooked it during the previous days egg gathering.

Sadly, based on this past years diminished egg count, several of my birds will have to be re-homed. Since several are 3 years old and a few are 4 they have passed their prime egg production years. Feeding them just to look out is out of the question so I will be sending several beautiful birds to freezer camp and adding new birds to the flock.

No wind to speak of here, but the steady downpour of rain is not a good sign for fishing. So I suggest another cup of plant seeds steeped in water.

Why are you up so early when sunrise is still so far off? Either you must go to work, or you are starting to exhibit early signs of the old man predisposition to not sleeping any longer than necessary.

I guess I'll have to take the "old man" option here; I ain't going fishing in this weather.

I sincerely applogize Mom2.
I went back and fixed my post so that I removed my comment which could be offensive.
I sure did not mean to be offensive but I see that it could appear that way!
Much love to you and your dear ones, human and animals.

I woke up with tougher skin than I went to bed with. I appreciate your input on all matters here.

Sam, you made me think too hard this morning.
I sat here sippin on coffee, pondering why you are drinking the water from soaked seeds...and what were you planting...
The brain has figured out what you were talking about. Which reminds me- have you tried Starbucks "Blonde Willow" yet? That is my new favorite coffee now.

On the subject of feeding those that no longer earn their keep..
I know some people who feel the same way about their spouses..
Mine are safe. They dont seem to realize that they are SUPPOSED to lay eggs. It just sneaks up on them now and then. They have me trained to think that actually getting an egg is a bonus!

YORKCHICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Now you need an avatar!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I miss them so much. They look good! Go give Henry a kiss and tell him its from me!

Tell Peepee penelope that I have sent the rain to melt the evil white stuff...and I promise she won't starve.

Farmerboy- gorgeous roos. I had my favorite picked out and planned on saying it by name here, but I cant remember which one it was now. lol. They are all very gorgeous and great pictures!

Something evil has caused me great stomach pain. I have been doubled over since 3 a.m. It was hurting when I went to bed, but now is REALLY REALLY bad. I cant do more than sip on my coffee..it just reminds me that I never went for that gall bladder ultrasound the doctor had suggested...and I cant help but smirk and think perhaps nature is trying to knock me down a notch from my long-winded response last night. Not too sure if its going to be stomach flu, ulcer, or if it is indeed some blocked bile duct gall bladder issue but

wow does it hurt.

ETA:
I just came across this post on the Washington thread- (now that you can mouse over and read things without opening the thread, I am alot more nosey than I used to be.)
"So.....going back to our whole "Baytril" discussion from a while back....one of our veterinarians just got back from a conference, where she went to a lecture about backyard chickens. First of all, I just have to say how AWESOME it is that they had a backyard chicken lecture!!!! And even more awesome that she went! (She usually calls me when a chicken comes into the clinic and I'm not there to get my input).

ANYWAY...a tidbit from the lecture, is that it is ILLEGAL to give backyard chickens Baytril and/or any cephalosporin drug because of possible resistance and how that could affect the commercial poultry industry.

Just thought that it was interesting.... "

I have to confess I've been stalking for quite a while, and figured I'd better introduce myself. My name is Leslie and I live in Hesperia, work as an RN in Muskegon, and started a small flock of three in Oct. I also have 11 ducks who enjoy keeping my pond aerated. I've read for information, entertainment, and ideas this is a wonderful site a real challenge to keep up with.

Howdy Leslie! Welcome to non-stalking :)

Well my Marans is not doing any better (she is still looks like she's dancing to Michael Jackson's Remember the Time). :: sigh :: She's pooing regularly now though so I think we are working through this but it is taking some time.

Well I hope everyone is having a great day!

A challenge to keep up with? Are you kidding me, Leslie ? I wear out a pair of reading glasses every day just trying to keep up.
