Preparing to meet with RaZ, I snatched up one baby- and put it in with Beeper momentarily while I went and caught her sibling.

Showing the size difference:

I took Beeper out, and handed her to my daughter- this is almost immediately what she did.

Here are the two that I gave RaZ, side by side:

Now, in all seriousness-
I am worried about Beeper.
She just wants to sleep. We drove to Tractor Supply, and just got back, and Beeper didnt wake up and try to get me to hold her when I came in. In fact, it worried me enough that I took her out of her cage and put her in my lap- and she is sleeping on her side in my lap.
Im really worried because she is so small and light- thats why I mentioned trying to trim her beak..

What should I do?
How do I know if she is just sleeping or if 'failure to thrive' has caught up with her?

Here she is right now:

Okay- here is what I did.

I used an emery board and I filed part of her beak.
Then i gave her some of these B complex vitamins.
Put her back in her cage- and rushed out to the petstore.

I bought Kaytee Exacct handfeeding formula for parrots. I rushed back home-

just to find her awake from her nap- and picking at her food bowl.

So, since she is too light, and not growing right anyhow- I mixed up the handfeeding formula and then force-fed her with an eye dropper until she had a full crop. Probably the first time I have ever felt or seen her crop full. WOW was she mad.

Then I put her back in with her stuffed snowman and heat lamp.

I think I will do it to her again once her crop empties- AND I think I will put some of the unmixed formula on her chick grumble.

Mom, beeper's small size might be a sign that there is something fundamentally wrong with her. You will find out if there is, because she will fail to thrive. You are giving her good care, and that is all you can really do - she will either be able to make it or not depending on her ability to grown and mature.

Raz gave me some wonderful honey for the little girls too, loved it.

Dog nail trimmers work great on birds too.

Sounds like a very good idea with the formula just be careful "force feeding" If you have never hand fed. Myself I would dip my finger into the honey you got and put a tiny bit in her beak then repeat later. Honey does MANY amazing things.

Mom2 - what a brilliant idea to use the handfeeding formula from the pet store on Beeper! If she has beak trouble she may not be getting enough nutrition.

You are certainly doing all you can for her and hopefully she will respond to the love and care!

I am bummed... Or maybe just impatient. None of the babies under Leila have hatched yet. Today is day 22... They looked good yet on day 18... think maybe since it is so cold, they may need a little longer? How much longer should I leave them? I want to give the eggs from Buffy as much time as is possible... I so hope to get some Buffy Babies... As for Skeeter, she seems to be doing good... Her eggs are like, smoking hot. She plucked so much of her feathers out of her underside. LOL. Hope at least one of Leilas eggs hatch... I'd hate to have her be there all this time and none of them hatch...

She is just precious!

Quote: ha ha ha ha! Don't you hate it when you are so tired and out of sorts that you can't even remember the one thing that would fix it? I hope you get it soon before you loose what's left of your sanity

I myself turn into an entirely different person in such situations.......

Mom, you will be in my thoughts.

I am hoping she is worn a little from having that playmate. I think what you are doing sounds like a good idea. Sometimes when you don't feel well and aren't eating, food is the last thing you want but what you need the most. Probably after a little bit of actually having a full belly she'll get used to it and eat on her own.
