So sorry MOM regarding beeper.
Congrats on the new hatchers Nova
Welcome farmgirl. You must have a big barn.
Hope you had a good day fishin' Opa.

What a great day. The birds were out and about but stuck to the melted areas. One Isa Brown, Lovebird, was in one green patch watching the rest of the flock in another green patch and was pacing back and forth trying to figure out how to get to them when she took flight over the snow to get to her buds. She is one of my older girls. Checking in on everyone tonight and doing my count, I was one bird short. I did a quick check around the yard and went back in to count again when I heard a coo, cluck over my head. My little D'anver pullet was up in the rafters over my head. Her favorite roosting spot was taken by a different bird.

I received a Gurney catalog today, talk about timing. Feels like spring even though it is Michigan and I know better.

Good Morning everyone!

THANK you all for the sympathies regarding my little Beeper. We sure tried hard with that little velociraptor, She made it longer than she would have had she hatched out under a broody, for sure. Im pretty sure if we had her under that fancy machine that Chicken Grandma was talking about, they would have found a whole bunch of messed up inside her. :(

I figured out why I cant sleep more than four hours at a time. I need a new shoulder- sleeping requires me to lie down, most of the time. I have done it sitting up and standing occasionally, but for the most part, lying down- which means my shoulder has to be somewhere. There really isnt a good spot to put it. If I had detachable arms like a Barbie doll, I would take advantage of that when it came down to sleeping.

RaZ. how are the big hens taking to the little ones? Are any of them being their buddy and showing them the ropes? Im pretty sure they were making a break for it to go freak out your neighbor. Bet she hasnt seen any naked neck chickens before.

Chickmate- have you posted any pictures of your babies and broody? I have missed them if you did- and I need to go back through the pages.

Sam- what did you catch yesterday?

I missed out on the Spring like weather because I was locked in work all day. I escaped a few times to enjoy the sun, but they kept finding me and made me come back inside. Im sure my chickens enjoyed it though.

Nova- did your last egg hatch?

I only have a couple eggs out of all the eggs in my incubator that are doing any growing. I finally got a stamp though, and am going to send out a check to Theron and get a bunch of eggs from him to put in my new handydandy incubator. My brother in law has requested that I hatch out a bunch of eggs for him- and he wants me to hatch out only girls.

He was serious. His mind must think that when you order them from a hatchery as only girls they hatch them that way. What I am thinking is RIR or Isa's for him. What do you all think for layers would be best? I dont like barred rocks. They make me dizzy watching them with all their zebra stripes.

What screechs at night? IN the suburbs? At one a.m. something screeched outside loud. Woke me out of a sound sleep. Had me very discombobulated. Sounded like a hawk outside my bedroom window. I will do a head-count when the sun comes up, but I never heard a peep from any of the chckens or peepers. My dog went outside, didnt bark or anything- came back in rather quickly. In my discombobulated state, I then turned on my coffee pot and sat here at the computer, ready to start the day, when I realized it was one a.m and not four...so I went back to bed and woke this morning to the coffee pot shut itself off. Coffee was still hot, though.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

I woke at my usual time and rather than feeling elated about the opportunity to face the coming day I'm feeling more like going back to bed. I think yesterday's boat ride and lure washing expedition has worn me out. I am reminded of the old adage that a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day of working. Arctic snow owls have been sighted at Pt. Mouilee, so as we drifted down the Huron River I kept watching the trees along the shore hoping we might see one. On previous trips I've seen eagles, hawks, osprey, and great horned owls and it would have been nice to have spotted a snow owl. I've only seen one once before and spotting one of these rare visitors would have been fantastic.

Mom, a variety of animals and birds can make eerie sounding screams. Several species of owls make a screaming sound as do fox, raccoons, and house cats.

Sam, It didnt scream like a cat- it made a sound that sounded like the red tail hawk does . I assume it was in my tree. Honestly, it could have been on the ground outside my window instead of the tree- but my dog didnt pick up on it if thats the case.
I will look for any tracks out in the chicken yard when the light comes up.

DID YOU STRAIGHTEN HIM OUT ?

Congrats Raz...that's a good sized egg!

Does anyone know if there is a easier/quicker way to access your Home Page other than going into your profile and scrolling through your recent activities. On the old form they had a Header for it which made it a breeze to get to.

IN PROFILE SEARCH I TYPED "BOBBRY'S MEMBER PAGE I think. That's What the search found.

I second an owl. We have a couple in the area and if I let the dog out after midnight I can hear them hooting back & forth to each. Sounds pretty neat.

Well my DH is set to go out & get a me Dremel Tool. He didn't even blink am eye when I said what I wanted it for. I know what he's thinking though....another toy for him as well!

So guess what I'll be doing this weekend.

Opa if you or anyone else has any advice or tips on doing this it 'd be greatly appreciated.
I've given numerous manicures in my time but never to a chicken!!
