So Sorry
Thanks. But I expected it. Sad thing about it is she was one I had made into a pet. I could go out at anytime day or night and walk right up to her and pet her. Just goes along with farming. Not the first and I'm sure won't be the last. Sad though, none the less.

Sounds like a tough day ahead Sam. I hope the good memories, also give you strength to get through the unpleasant task.

We just talked to my parents the other day about buying their home from them. Hopefully giving them a little income and piece of mind.. my worry is that when they need to sell it, the market won't give them anything or it will sit there for a long time etc. So we thought if we got it from them, they could get a fair market price etc.

Rbahmer, sorry about the sheep.
Thanks Silly Chicken.

Rbahmer, so sorry about your ewe. That is why I don't name my chickens, it seems like the ones I name always are the unlucky ones.

Opa, sounds like not the happiest trip for you. Keep your chin up. You are so sweet for all you do for those who need your help.

That is interesting about crappies schooling according to age. When we were perch fishing last weekend it struck me that we would see 4" perch swimming right alongside 10" perch, all together and unperterbed. But there were a lot more of the bait-stealing, sneaky non-keepers than the heart-pounding, huge big mammas.

Fuzzy, generalized demodectic mange is a whole different problem than regular mange. Your sister's dog needs to be under the care of a veterinarian, as the treatment is prolonged, and complications can also occur. Hope it works out for her.

Nova - Those chicks are stinkin cute!

RBahmer - so sorry about your ewe :(

I don't know why this is, but making ice cream is very therapeutic for me. I must say that this was the absolute best ice cream I've made so far (courtesy of Jeni's Spendid Ice Creams cookbook):

Opa sorry to hear about your brother, he will need support, hope the home isn't to far from you. When you go through Granny's house just sit for awhile and soak up the memory's. after my mom died, even after it was empty, I like to go sit and remember all the good times had in that house. Parents lived there for a long time many family reunions, birthdays, holidays, ect.
Our prays go with you.
Congrats Nova on saving that last egg.

Nova....I see the writing in the sky....Nova's Incubating Service.....You could make millions! lol The pics are just plain adorable...Congrats!

RBahmer.....so sorry for your loss. Fingers & Toes crossed for momma ewe....sounds like she is in good hands!

Opa & CR....Thanks for the advice. I won't be able to start this project til Sunday. My DH bought a Dremel Tool but I'm gonna go look at the ones they use on dogs like suggested (Pedi Paws). The one my DH bought is corded, he didn't think a cordless one would stay charged long enough to do 12 chickens. I told him if we decide on a cordless we might have to make it a 2 day event....1/2 one day & 1/2 the other. This is probably a somewhat simple chore but I must admit the thought of such a task makes me a little nervous.....just a teenie, weenie, little bit.

Nova congrats on the chicks, hope the rest hatch out as well, sorry for #4

love the pics. thanks

Just gonna check them out. The one DH bought today is real nice & will definitely do the job. LOL.....He spent this morning on the computer comparing different brands, prices etc. Sheesh, the way he was browsing you think he was buying the darn thing for himself!!
He is buying it for himself, silly, he will let you use it any time you want

We used a corded dremel, wrapped the rooster in a towel, I held the roo, DH used the tool, May try to get to it again today. Mamma hen has VERY long nails.

Thought it might be smart to peek in before crashing for the night so that I won't have some many to read in the morning

You will find that the Dremel drum sander will work much easier the the Pedi-Paws. They won't take off the amount that you will need to remove. Rather than starting at the tip of the nail, with a little practice you can start much closer to you final length.

when you start down the nail do you go from the bottom? Will have cornstarch ready, We may need a demonstration Love your fence guy, reminds me of Wilson on Time The Tool Man

Update : Momma sheep died last night. Went out at 11:00 to check her and she had died. Was just too much on her I guess.
Thanks everybody for your well wishes.

So sorry about you momma, death is always sad, new life helps to heal. Hope the rest go well

Good luck with the upcoming arrivals! If your spirits & energy is up at the end of the day....post some pics. I would love to see them.

Opa...I've always felt it to be quite an honor when people (family/friends) entrust their personal matters in me even though it is a huge responsibility and sometimes can be stressful. Hoping things work out well.

Teeville.....so glad to hear & see that everyone is getting back to normal after the other day's incident.

Sillychicken......good idea about wrapping them in a towel before trimming! My DH suggested putting their leg in a vice to keep them from moving!! Of course he was only joking!! You say lay them on their backs.......what about on their side?

MOM2......I would not want to get my hair caught in the Dremel!! As a child I had it caught in a windup action car's wheel. My brother thought it would be funny to see how close he could get it to my head with the wheels spinning full force....stupid little brother!!

RBahmer, sorry to hear your ewe didn't make it.

Chickmate, I know who lays what egg, and who is the daddy. Roger was only mating Leila and Buffy. Mr. Fluffers, the rest and Buffy, cuz Buffy would go back and forth between the garage and the coop. And the last 2 days of her life she was with Mr. Fluffers in the coop, so I know her last egg was pure. I didn't have any eggs from Leila. She went broody after I took the last egg she had laid... Well she went broody the day after she laid her last egg before becoming broody.. Yeah, thats it.

Sorry you lost your maran... I can't remember who now.. But, sorry anyway.

I am so irratated right now... My kids dad claims the childcare credit for the kids... I claim the EIC... well the IRS keeps rejecting my return this year, because H&R block effed something up in the filing of Johns returns, and now I can't even claim EIC! I have done nothing different on my returns this year, and they said everything would work out the same. I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN! I need the money that I should have gotten to pay property taxes from the guy I got my house on land contract from so I don't lose the house. He never paid them. Told me December. This is just a crap shoot of a morning now. H&R Block better figure this sh*% out and fix what ever they did wrong.

yumm can I have some? looks wonderful, Never made home-made ice cream. do you use cow fresh milk, heard that is THE best
