I read something that said the sugar beet crop in Michigan is all GMO product. I'll have to look up where I found that, so don't panic yet.

.....went out to look in on the coop ....I have a big window, 5 feet by 3 feet, that I can peek through.
First of all, i hope not because there's so little left of MI industry i would feel kinda bad. Second of all, with a window like that is that really classed as "peeking"?

Also, i wanted to say to you all that i haven't forgotten about finding the milk place here in Coopersville; i lost my notes and will search it again.

As of 2010 95% of the sugar beet crop in the US was GM. There was a court order in late 2010 that would have changed that pending an environmental impact study, but because of a shortage of non-GM seeds the USDA basically pulled trump over the judicial system. That was early 2011, I haven't heard much noise one way or the other since. Re-establishing a non-GM seed bank is one of the biggest hurdles to switching back from any GM crop.

OK, I just spent way too much time reading up on this case.Quote:
York - I've said it before, your posts are always SO enjoyable to read. Do you have a blog or do you write for a paper or something? If you don't, you should. Thanks for doing all the investigating and reading and giving us a synopsis on this article. Very interesting.

Did I miss anyone?
Oh, yeah.

Anyone else?

Ooops. OK, you got me!

I guess RaZ talks more about school than the others, so I automatically thought about him when I read it. I also NEVER go downtown anymore since I retired from GM, but had to go to Southgate the other day (to do a home inspection for a rescue group who is placing a hairless terrier). I passed Wayne State campus and again thought of RaZ!

Taprock - Neighbors are in my prayers. What a horrible ordeal to go through. I hope they both make it OK.

Rats! One of my biggest fears. I look out every night after I turn the back floodlights off to see if I see movement in the run. They are the only predator besides a weasel or mink that could get my babies. I have never seen any, but always worry they will start coming because of the grain and food out in the run.

I made a feeder that can hold more than 100 lbs, and zero feed waste on Saturday, and would like your opinions on it before I make 8 more. :) The chickens have to reach way in to get the feed, that way they can't scoop the feed out with their beaks. It took me about a hour to assemble the whole thing. All the wood was from the strap pile.

Thanks!

Looks good Daron.

Is there any way that a chicken could fall in and get stuck between the can and the little wall? That was my only thought.

Feederlooksgood. I made one in like fashion, only used a five gallon bucket reservoir. Course I have only five hens now. I might have a concern if the birds did not empty the container before spoilage occurred.

I thought that too but he could fix that by having bigger holes at the bottom, so there is more food free flowing, and the chickens don't have to reach in so far. I like it though. I just showed my DH and he was impressed too....and contemplating how he could modify your desing for our coop. lol Great creativity there Daron.
