That makes me wonder what summer will be like. I hate above 80 degrees heat, as I get heat exhaustion very quickly and bad headaches. I hardly do much outside in the summer.

I don't mind heat, but hope it doesn't get too hot, too fast. Last year it came on quick and that's not great for the garden. Some things like it, but it really hurt the green bean harvest. They don't set blossoms above 93 degrees and it definitely showed last year. Interestingly, the year before that I think it was actually hotter, longer but it didn't seem so bad. It came on slower, I think. Allowed the plants and people to adjust better.

I hope your peahen returns safely in the AM.

It certainly has been a mild winter. My pond is completely clear of ice, in fact, it never iced over completely at all. The ground is nothing but mud and the dogs have assured that not a blade of grass will survive. Looks like a complete reseeding is in order.

If that weather prediction is accurate, I might start sowing peas and beans at the start of March.

I was giving serious consideration to early planting, too, Raz. Usually onions are the earliest thing I set out in late March, but I'm tempted to gamble on Mother Nature's game this year and start planting considerably earlier than usual...

If I thought it wouldn't PO my neighbor even more, I would set up a mini hoop house. As it stands, I think I'll try a bunch of containers that I can move around. I'm also planning on a number of straw bales for growing veggies.

Can you imagine a wall of bales along the fence line with stuff growing?

LOL! How about just tucking it into your landscaping? I know... not nearly as fun.
That's actually pretty funny. Late last fall, I brought home 40+ bales of hay and used some of them in the front yard to smother some invasive vinca vines that were taking over. The neighbors complained to me that it was starting to look like a farm.

Yet their straw bale, corn stalks and pumpkins were a Halloween decoration that went into the trash 2 weeks later. Go figure.

ok...I'm hoping I'll be able to figure this new forum setup out....have I mentioned I hate change? ;) cause I do lol
I have a hatch due soon of Silkies and need a quick refresher course to make sure my brain isn't remembering the wrong thing. What humidity should these guys been at through incubation and what humidity level should it be at during hatching. I'm thinking 40% during incubation and then bump it to 60+ % during lock-down/hatching time right? I'm excited to see what I get because we have white, blue, black and splash...and a couple showgirls too :)

I have missed you..very much so- in fact a thousand pages back somewhere, I mentioned you were missing...however, when you appear, my will power to say NO just dissipates ...

My swamp is half frozen. Filling it in this spring with dirt. Lots n lots of dirt and going to plant on it. Sorry, wild mallards. No more mosquito/malaria/sea creature breeding for me.

I tried to hide my yard last year with bamboo fencing, grape vines and a billion morning glories. It looked great until the people behind us hacked my grape vines and then...
the marigolds took over my bamboo fence and overloaded it top-heavy, and brought the whole thing down..

Gave the neighbors a great view of my world.

Now back to you all who want an Uggo of your very own...Take your pick The boys have to go Click on the picture to make it bigger:

Good morning Michigan - guess Opa is sleeping in again

Farmerboy, hope your wanderer is home this morning.

Hi Jen, glad to see you drop in! You will do great with the new format once you get used to it, there are some really nice features. Still a little buggy though.

Speaking of bugs, we are going to have lots this year due to the mild winter - ticks, fleas, etc.

I wish I was sleeping in. Stayed up way too late last night trying to play catch-up. I know better than that, because it rarely works. And then I'm just left tired and still behind in the morning.
