welcome jphillips. Glad you joined us. We aren't that chatty. Not really if you compare us to those people over in Washington... Now they chat. You miss an hour there, forget even trying to catch up. Lol.

Well looks like my kids have gone sicko. Both are hacking and coughing and sleeping with tissues up their noses. Poor boys. Darn winds really whipped up the left over crap from fall and after being outside in it yesterday... Freaking allergies. Yes, we live in the woods, what do I expect...

If anyone near me would like some duck egg to nosh on, let me know. With 3-4 day, which is more than I get from my chickens right now, I am going to have an over load in the fridge soon.

Also, Veena is continuing to lay shell-less eggs... Every day...had 5 in a row... Any ideas?

Good Morning Everybody

Welcome jphillips......glad to joined us chicken lovers.

Nova.....I just saw a thread the other day where someone posted a site on defective eggs.
Warning: some of the pics looked pretty gross. Maybe you can find something there.

Morning everyone! I have to treck over to Chicago today...I hate the drive but I've decided to take one of my Bichons to keep me company this time. I asked her if she wanted to go "bye bye" this morning ....she's so excited right now she can't stand herself. HAHA...

jphillips - Welcome!

Nova - hmmm....maybe I should stop by on the way home today for some of those yummy duck eggs :) Depends on how late I am getting home though. I'll pm you if I think I can swing it.

Have you had any problems with your hens?? I stopped growing morning glories when I read the seeds are poisonous ..I have trumpet vine also but it can get very heavy
No problems that I know of, lately. Someone else mentioned trumpet vine. I might try it. My chickens have cohabited with the MGs for one season. Then too, I read somewhere that clover is poisonous to chickens ???

Another question relating to coop construction - The interior of the coop has just natural exposed boards. Is there any reason or need to paint them? I am hoping to do something on the poop boards to make the poop come off more easily, but what about the rest of the floor and walls?
Some say painting is BAD inside the chicken house. It could peel and they will eat it if so. Not good i suspect. My poop board came from a shower stall we removed. Window from TV screen cover glass. Slides up to remove.Hardware cloth inside.

We aren't that chatty. Not really

Says the lady with almost 2300 posts in less than a yr. ( almost forgot the lol )

My new computer is here. It too is driving me crazy. I'm in real trouble now. I can not bring up the elllectronic guide book, can't get on line with the wireless thingy,

I suppose that's why I spent 2.5 hrs on this old (workable) thing.

My Sizzle eggs arrived this morning. None are broken. However the mail room ladies were horrified that the box was in the mailbag instead of handed from the driver. ?? Maybe most fragile stuff goes to the driver? Not sure but they were very worried about the eggs. What do I look for when candling to see if they were scrambled?

No opa?

Raz - word on your duckies?

Hello. I am a chicken outlaw from Sterling Heights. I am new to chickens being a city girl. My husband was raised elsewhere and has some experience. We purchased our chicks 4 weeks ago hoping to get an early start and summer eggs. I had no idea they would grow SO fast. We purchased 5 chicks: 1 silkie, 1 rhode island red, 1 leghorn, 1 easter egger and 1 isa brown. I look forward to reading through the Michigan forum and gaining Michigan chicken information.

Welcome!

Catching up is hard to do.
I'm having Sorrow, Anger, Apprehension, Regrets, Joy, Envy, and several other responses to many of the posts I've read this A M. And I assure all that the reactions are IMO all reasonable and consistent with the mores of each and every one of you.
