I will think about it, but i am unsure whether it would change my approach... Seems to me that this is something that is pretty common, and MG is a problem that isn't going away anytime soon so i am working to finding some kind of research at all to try. The meds come sooo close to being 100% effective, if we could only figure out how to get them into the inflamed parts of the lungs, or get the inflammation down so it can get in.
We get types of mycoplasma too, New research is starting to link them to inflammatory diseases. diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure are all big in my family, from both sides! Supposing these are caused by types of mycoplasma, this info would be vital.... There are drs who have successfully cured atshma and rheumatiod arthritis with antibiotics geared towards mycoplasma. The problem is that so far, the patients have to be on the meds for up to a year sometimes, so it's not popular for obvious reasons. Another dr has been successfully saving diabetic limbs that were "beyond saving" and sceduled for amputation, because he found mycoplasma on the wounds, and he believes that is what is causing the problem, and treated the mycoplasma.

Very cute duckies, RaZ! But so sorry for the nine who didn't make it. It's a small miracle these did, hope they bounce right back. The will to live is an amazing thing.

Should have not went to TSC yesterday. I found what i thought was a dead chick, and picked it out of the tank for the guys. When i went to hand it to the guy, it tried to pick up it's head.... they were going to throw him in the trash, so i brought him home so i could love on him and at least let him die with dignity. He got much stronger, and i thought i had saved him, but he died early this morning. So sick over it. I really thought he was gonna make it.

While i was nursing him, i noticed that he was rattling in his chest, and he was only able to scoot backwards on his hocks. I would've thought it was spraddle leg, but i remember (Jen?) saying that in muskegon there were chicks dropping like flies? I will go back today and see if other chicks are now doing it. Apparently in 2009 one of the big hatcheries had a problem with AE and shipped banty chicks all over with it... Could be nothing but please be careful buying this year.

Awwww, how cute! Glad they made it. But man, I'd be so freakin mad and sad. Good luck with em
I guess it was good that I cooled off a bit. Even though the phone calls did not come through (and I fault Verizon), here is then rest of the story:

The rest of the story is this: I went to the post office last week and told them I was expecting live animals and asked to be notified immediately upon arrival. I was assured that would be the case.

According to the tracking label, the ducklings arrived in Detroit at 14:37 (2:34 PM) on Feb. 28th. My local Post Office did not call me until 6:30 AM today, March 1. Where were the ducks for nearly 2 days? I called the PO twice on Tuesday and 3 times on Wednesday and was told that they had not arrived. Apparently they were here somewhere but I guess "Priority Mail" and "Phone Upon Arrival" have different definitions.

Poor ducks died cruelly and needlessly due to the negligence of the USPS.

Metzer Farms has been professional, sympathetic and supportive. The surviving ducklings are doing very well now that they have had some food and water.

Welcome jphillips...I am new around here as well, but everybody is friendly and full of insights on chicken raising. You will have fun on here and learn lots!

When I bought my new laptop last semester, I decided to let Geek Squad do the initial set-up. It saved me a lot of time getting rid of the junk that new computers come with. My only problem was getting hooked up to my wireless at home. I had forgotten what the password was to get logged in to the network.
Then there was each and every site has it's own log-in and password, so now I've made a notebook of them with addys, log-ins and password.

I thought computers were supposed to save us frustration, paper, time, etc.

I feel your pain RaZ. Been working on the income taxes and I have 3 (count them THREE) printers and none of them are working correctly. I need to print some stuff before I file the taxes and they are just giving me nothing but fits! I spent some time on the phone w/ Epson technical support (probably somebody over in India) and they weren't able to help me either. They offered to send me some replacement ink cartridges...GEE THANKS! I need to print NOW! Grrrrrrrr. I suppose Uncle Sam won't mind getting to use my money for a little while longer anyway! I see the sun starting to peek through the clouds...maybe things are looking up after all.

OK, well now that I vented about my printer struggles, I read further down and saw that in addition to your computer issues, you have verizon/postoffice/duckissues. Sorry for the loss. I would be po'ed at Verizon as well. Hope the five that remain will flourish prosper!

Taprock, glad your eggs came! All mine are going to be shipped around the 13th.

And I am so sorry all, but I am in Sunny Florida, 80's, fishing every day - this was our first day out. A 33" redfish, we released her as she was outside the slot limit (18 to 27 for redfish) but it was very exciting!!

Some how........ I don't think you're sorry..... but I'm ok with that! Happy fishing!

I painted the inside walls of my coop on the advice of the guy who built my coop, as they are easier to scrub down as needed (somehow poop ends up on the walls with some regularity). On this guy's advice I used an oil based paint. I did a coat of primer first, then I think three coats of the paint (which was labeled as for use on floors, so pretty tough stuff). (And as a bonus it is a very attractive "prison gray" color--the only color this paint came in). With oil based paint you have to wait I believe 24 hours between coats for it to dry. And I know I had to do at least three coats because the coop is made of OSB and it took that many to really fill in all the roughness and get a reasonably even surface.
I know someone said that paint can flake, and I had not considered that to be honest, but so far, so good on mine--no sign of peeling in 2-1/2 years. I will keep an eye out for any signs. But it does make it easy to clean the walls. The guy who built my coop also put in concrete over the wood floor and so far that has been very easy to keep clean as well.

Now I know a person with rudimentary carpentry skills could probably rip down the (very sturdy and well-attached) nest boxes and build new ones on the far end of the coop, Unfortunately I am not that person. Maybe some day...
And as I've said, the coop is well-constructed and will last a long, long time I think. And I've gotten (mostly) used to the awkward set up. At least I will know better what to insist on when/if I get my next coop...
Properly prepared surfaces are unlikely to peel or chip. The key is the prep work which you did well. Moisture is usually the culprit that causes blisters, peeling, chipping, etc. and when people just re-paint over that, the problem continues. My only concern (very minor) would be to allow your interior to dry well after you have scrubbed it down.

And if you really want to have the nest boxes moved, let me know. I'm not too bad with a hammer.

And now that I know where you live.
