Just heard a happy story about a rooster I re-homed last year. He saved the flock.

The Father went out to the coop to let everyone out in the morning and found an almost dead raccoon and the roo with just some missing feathers and light scratches. He locks the coop at night and thinks the raccoon must have already been in there. The rooster must get his smarts and toughness from Mom - Isa Brown, because Dad is a very sweet, meek, Silkie.
WOW!

I just love it when a rooster wins the fight! Roosters are so underrated!

They are very pink. I don't remember if They had a cream blush at the top or not... all i know is that they are getting run over. So sad.
This is an overgrown pine woods, looks to have been planted back in the day, and very little sunshine. They are hiding in the lower level of the pine mulch, and straight sand is under them.

chickflick Fuzzy, you said 2 parts prymethrin to 1 part water, right?? One drop on banties.
Careful not to use too many types of chemicals at once!
Mine was actually 2 parts permethrin to 1 part water. One drop on the back of the neck, where they can't reach it, like a dog. It took 3 days for me to see anything, then the lice were gone. Nobody got sick, and they ate really well. I did this once a month until the lice were gone, i didn't spray the coop, but i mopped the floor daily and the perches daily with bleach water, very strong. (I think i poured about 1/4 a cup in a gallon!) while everyone was out ranging. You don't want bleach fumes around the birds, so let it dry good if you do that part. I only had straw in the nestboxes, so i changed this after every treatment. Since you could have mites hiding in the wall cracks, i would spray in there with the "barn spray" instructions on the bottle, just let it air out really good before they go back in. AND DON'T EAT THE EGGS! until at least 2-3 weeks after you are done. Which sucks, but hopefully they don't come back anytime soon! I have heard that these are the hardest thing to get rid of.

score 1 against raccoons this year. I lost all but my rooster from my first flock to coons. In my roosters defense, he was barely able to crow yet. I have a feeling he would scream and run if he saw one now, after living through all that!

Repotted my green rose today. Actually rose-s. When i got my mini from the store, they had already been overwatered, and the bottom leaves were turning yellow. But it was my coveted rose of the year, so i brought it home. Gave it a couple days, but the soil just wouldn't dry, like a sponge. Didn't want to lose another one, So i followed the advice i got when i googled "how to save a grocery store mini rose", and swished the roots in a bucket of water to seperate the cuttings, and you put it in good draining soil with no water for 12-24 hours to let the roots dry just a little. Figured since it was all cloudy and humid it was perfect. Had to snip the blooms, was so bummed, but they need to be regenerating not blooming. Anyway, looked like hundreds of slow release fertilizer crystals all bound up in the roots! No wonder they take it so bad if overwatered. Poor thing was getting root burn. So if you do buy one, i strongly suggest finding that site! They look great so far. (hopefully i didn't just jinx myself again)

Wonder how noisy it was in there when the brawling was going on?

Olive.......Thanks for sharing the recipe. Sounds great and I'll have to try it. When I was reading how easy it was to do my first thought was....Oh, how great for when we have company or the kids have a sleep over!
