Congratulations on all the new chicks!

Thanks again for the welcomes. :D I can be pretty chatty being here at home alone with my kids all day.

I'll read those regulations myself once I have a chance to set down and there isn't someone demanding my attention. The Destiny Farm has a nice flow chart but it still leaves me a bit uneasy.

All the chick info is so great- I'm jealous and they are so cute!

Emus and ostriches sound amazing but troublesome (at least not that friendly). Maybe if this house deal falls through it will be our sign that I should look for a more homestead-like property.

How did you get started with Emu's, eggs or chicks? I so much want to do emu's but I'm scared since I have never been around one. What if I hate them or are scared of them?
taprock - I got started with young adults. I had like 6 of them. Emu's are awesome. I loved them .Ostrich are too nasty, they want to kill you and Rhea's are too flighty. Can be mean also. Emu's are sweet. They will eat out of your hand, won't chase you, won't try to kill you. They are a very friendly bird. Also comical the way they dance around. But if they ever get loose and out of their pen you got your work cut out for you. You can't lead them and you can't herd them. They go in all different directions .But I love Emu's. My grandson looked at me quit a few years back and said " Mimi (that's what he has always called me) when are you going to get some more of them big chickens?"

Long, busy day. I'm glad it's done. Got the main coop cleaned out, it hadn't be done since November. Dusted all the surfaces with Sevin followed up with DE. Put in new wood shaving. Disassembled the wall cages and cleaned them. Later this spring I will re-install them at little higher than they were.

Got the fishing gear loaded and the boat hooked up to the truck. Checked the Weather Channel on line and there are flood warnings for the Muskegon River from the Croton Dam down. Not wanting to deal with high fast water we decided to go fish the Huron instead. Sure was looking forward to fishing the Muskegon. What is it they say about the best laid plans?

Does destiny have silkies?

Why, yes. Yes they do.

Oh and here's another plug for the Michigan thread over at The Easy Garden. For those times when this thread is slow. And YES! I have been here when there have been NO posts. It happens.

I think I will have to go check it out, didn't get any answers to the garden questions I posted here.

Welcome LadyFeather, my advice is a bit different: go directly to the source. The text of both the MRTFA and GAAMPS are readily available on the Michigan State website. Don't depend on what others tell you and what you read here, go read the text at the source.

Oh, yes, definitely read it over yourself. I still found it a bit confusing after I read through it, however. If I needed to understand how it actually can be applied in real situations, as opposed to how it works in theory, I would find it helpful to talk to people who had been through the legal system with it, though. I didn't pursue it because we are agriculturally zoned anyway. Good luck, it is quite a bit to read through and much of it does not apply to your situation. I am not really familiar with legal documents, so I found it a bit difficult to filter out what would apply to a simple backyard flock, and what those bits really meant in any case. I didn't see the flow chart on Destiny Farm's website, but.. eh.. I found their website a bit difficult to navigate, so if it were me I would just give them a call.

My grandson looked at me quit a few years back and said " Mimi (that's what he has always called me) when are you going to get some more of them big chickens?"

I must have missed your garden question(s). What did you ask? Perhaps I can help.

We got out of class a little early so I buzzed to TSC (Whitmore Lake Rd). They had a lot of "red pullets" and a bin of unlabeled striped chicks that might have been Wyandottes but they looked a lot different from my SLW's. It was good that I don't need any more chicks.

Still, the cost of supplies.
