Wooohoooo! That is awesome! I have never seen an ostrich chick, would you post a pic?

sshhh...they are fake ostriches...not real ones. You are new, so you missed my post three weeks ago where I said Theron sent me the biggest darn chicken eggs I had ever seen in my life...that they must be ostriches...but, oh...

I can imagine me trying to keep an Ostrich hid from my neighbor..Id have to disguise it as a tree...

When is the surgery Mom2EM? 15th? 16th? Will be praying all goes smoothly!

Surgery is on the fifteenth. Have to be there at six am, surgery at 7, takes an hour, two hours later, discharged..home by 11.
Thank you, I hope it goes smoothly.

I missed the chicken dog comment as well. I was pretty zoned out yesterday.

Dare we ask why you have Toxicodendron radicans fruit in a muffin pan.

You missed all my posts to you as well. Did not apologize either.

I am going to see how many silkies I would have to get, and if they can give me only pullets.
Destiny Farms will sell you one. IF they sell them to you,,,,if they have them. I made a trip out there all the way there after he told me he had chicks..and when I got there, he said he sold them all..and I had told him I was coming.
Another time, I needed a duckling but he wont do business on Sunday..correction, he will let you pick up your critters, but he wont take money on Sunday. Was the only day I had off.
I wont try them again, but others have had good luck with them.
I have two chicks for you, too..so dont forget them when you are figgerin your chicken space..lol.

Let's see, I made fun of your dog at the bottom of this page.

Okay.. so.. let's see... I made some ice lanterns last Winter, and I thought it would be cool if I made an ice garland by freezing berries and things in a muffin tin with some twine run through them, so when it froze and I took them out all the little discs would be connected on a string.

Well, I was picking some barberries when I spied these lovely little cream coloured berries, and I thought they were lovely and it would be neat to have those in there, too. >.<

In defense of my intellect, they were in a place that I was quite certain poison ivy had not spread to yet. Apparently not. I finished picking them, and my brain was just starting to nudge me with the fact that they looked awfully familiar, so it was with horror that I looked to where I know vast amounts of poison ivy does grow, followed by a dreadful sinking feeling as my suspicions were confirmed. The very same berries were rampant through the poison ivy patches.

I guess I never realized that they persisted through Fall because they are usually under the cover of snow.

Anyway, I stuck the muffin tin in the closet so the kids wouldn't get it, and ran to scrub the crap out of myself with Technu, I am allergic to poison ivy something first. I was pretty amazed I didn't suffer for it, despite taking care of it immediately.

Ok... I will send both money and my cage with Juise, and if they have them, they have them, if they don't then they don't. I will believe their site said 2.50 a chick.

AND, I was telling my neighbor Earlene about the chick. She informed me that I am a crazy chicken lady, but she can't talk, cuz she's a crazy rabbit lady. LOL. Don't worry, I got them figured in to the equation. I don't mind if its buddy is feather footed or not.

I need a name for my Miss Ugly... I can't keep calling her Miss Ugly... I think since her origins are french/chinese, it should definately be interesting... I am thinking Belle Mai... hmmm...

Juice, it is the oils on the plant and berries that is irritating, If you put on some gloves and throw the berries out, then wash your pan in plenty of soap and warm water, it should be fine. You probably washed the oils off your skin before you had a chance to react to it - very smart.

She definitely looks related to the Uggos..in fact, I think we need to see the back of her neck, because Im pretty surre Raz dumped his uggos off on you...

and I will let you pick the buddy because I wouldnt want you to treat it like the red-headed stepchild...only there to be a buddy, not to be loved by you...lol...

Juise was it about the Lady Slipper? Cause my memory on those is drummed into my brain and raZ reminded me. Never pick a handful and bring them to your mother they are PROTECTED.

Haha no, I was asking about chicken poop and the lasagna gardening technique. My mum drove all those things through my head over and over when I was little, "and THAT is Jack-in-the-Pulpit, isn't it cute? Don't touch it! Those are trilluims, never touch them!!" You'd half think every darned plant in Michigan is protected going on a hike with that lady!

Holy crap! Where were you when I was asking for peoples experiences with Destiny Farm! lol! I have talked to them twice to make sure they have the chickens I want "reserved" for me, if I drive 3 hours out there and 3 hours back with my kids for naught, I am going to be ******. Also, I was planning on picking them up on Sunday, as he had told me to just swing by anytime, and I had asked about paying ahead of time and he just said not to worry about it at the moment. Thank you for sharing, I am going to call one more time to make #@*% well sure that he understands I am driving across the states for these things and they had better be there.

Woah, I think it is time for me to step out. Cursed, cursed habit!

I know! AND the feathers on her feet and shanks are out of this world. I wish I could have gotten a better picture of that!

Ok, I will pick out the buddy. I'd love em even if you picked em out. I just figured you'd be able to tell which one is its best buddy.

Woops, I didn't realize that was a censorable word, rofl. I will be upset, then.

I am also going to make sure he knows we are coming on Sunday, honestly, he could have mentioned that when he told me I could stop by any time.

Hey everyone! I posted this message in the new members forum but I thought I'd repost it here since Im from Michigan too:

Weather's been great here lately, should be this week too! Great coop building weather.

Thought I'd share some things about me. I'm new to chicken raising, the handful of chicks I got on Sunday are my first. I bought 6 total: I have two Silver Lace Wyandottes, a NH red, an ISA red, a black sexlink & a white leghorn. Nothing too fancy, but I already love them! All are pullets except the Wyandottes, I'm not sure on those two. I stumbled upon this great, awesome, information website last week when I was doing chicken research and I've been pretty much obsessed ever since!! All the information I've been finding and reading here has been so helpful, and I thank everyone who's posts I've read!!

Currently, I live w/my boyfriend out in a rural area with our dog and cat. We live right next door to a horse farm (they also have longhorns) and I love hearing them in the morning. I want some of my own some day, but we don't have enough room (or money) right now for that type of adventure. So I'm starting small, with chickens!! I also have a small garden that I enjoy and have been trying to devise a good chicken-proof fence to protect it, thanks to all my reading here. :) Some hobbies of mine are also cooking, reading, crocheting, being generally crafty and enjoying the outdoors...we love camping!!

Right now I work for a collections agency (its awful) but I decided a couple years ago to go back to college and I am now 3 months away from graduating as a veterinary technician! I obviously have a love for animals, if you hadn't noticed before I said that, haha. So that'll be exciting, I'm looking forward to getting a new job, and hopefully very quickly.

I love this site and hope to make a bunch of new friends here, and learn lots of new things about chickens and continue getting great advise from everyone. Thanks for welcoming me to the family!!
