My best friend was "immune" to poison ivy and used to harass me about how severely it would affect me. Many times when when would be hanging treestands he would pull the vines from trees. I have know him for over 50 years and get trying to tell him he shouldn't do that. What he didn't realize is that with each exposure you retain some of the ushinol oil in your system. Eventually you can accumulate enough to overcome that immunity.
Finally, when in his mid 50s he had a reaction to poison ivy. It was so severe that he was practically bedridden for days. Finally his doctor gave him a much stronger steroid based medication to treat it so it so he would be able to accompany me on a hunting trip to Nebraska. On our second day of hunting he had an adverse reaction to the medication interacting with his blood pressure meds and we had to rush him to an emergency room.
So try to avoid poison ivy and others that contain ushinol because sooner or later you will have a reaction.
The boys were so excited when they got home from school and saw that the chicks had arrived. My youngest immediately claimed the yellow chick as his and named HER, Bob. Later last name he named another one Fred. I keep telling them the chicks are girls but they still keep saying him, and guys when referring to MY GIRLS! Here is a pic of Jacob with Bob.
That's what I've been seeing here...I think I am addicted to the farm life in general!! Just don't have time or money for a bunch of livestock right now lol. Maybe some day! I'll be sure to check in often! My chicks that I've only had for 2 days are already attempting escape from their enclosure. It's pretty funny, the barely have feathers (they're like 10 days old) but they are trying like hell to fly over the edge and it's hilarious. I think I'll have to get a bigger enclosure tomorrow!
Well, I am happy to report that the silver sebright I was worried about is indeed a girl. My daughter saw her lay an egg today. Yay! But wait...that means I need hearing aids.![]()

Juise- That is a funny story about poison Ivy.I have a sister who is very allergic them them, but some of my other siblings and I can play in the Ivy patch all day, and not get a itch. Must be in the genes from my mom's side.
I have once casually pluck a Poison Ivy leaf at a friend's place, and he just about had a heart attack, and screamed at me saying ''That is Poison Ivy!!!'' I just laughed and chased him with it.![]()
