Holy moley! :) You guys were busy yapping since the last time I was on here! lol My broody is moved into her own location and is sitting tight to those eggs...however I candled most of them last night and pulled out half of the 12 she had under her as "not developing". I'm hoping she hatches some out for me! :)

I'd be interested in picking up some chicks/chickens from DFarms...I'm located near Lansing...is that anywhere near where you'll be passing through? :)

My best friend was "immune" to poison ivy and used to harass me about how severely it would affect me. Many times when when would be hanging treestands he would pull the vines from trees. I have know him for over 50 years and get trying to tell him he shouldn't do that. What he didn't realize is that with each exposure you retain some of the ushinol oil in your system. Eventually you can accumulate enough to overcome that immunity.

Finally, when in his mid 50s he had a reaction to poison ivy. It was so severe that he was practically bedridden for days. Finally his doctor gave him a much stronger steroid based medication to treat it so it so he would be able to accompany me on a hunting trip to Nebraska. On our second day of hunting he had an adverse reaction to the medication interacting with his blood pressure meds and we had to rush him to an emergency room.

So try to avoid poison ivy and others that contain ushinol because sooner or later you will have a reaction.

You're so spot on with that advise!
I used to think I was immune to it too... till one day I got it........ now, I get it bad!

I'll throw this story out to add to the poison ivy tales. My dad was horribly allergic for years. Then he started raising bees. He always used sumac berries for the smoker. Since, he is no longer allergic. I think it has to do with the sumac, they are in the same family and I read a study that almond pickers are also immune. Anyway do you think it has any truth to it or just coincidence?

They changed the forecast, now they say it will make it to 68. Yeah I give chickens baths today! I'm waiting to call TSC.

The boys were so excited when they got home from school and saw that the chicks had arrived. My youngest immediately claimed the yellow chick as his and named HER, Bob. Later last name he named another one Fred. I keep telling them the chicks are girls but they still keep saying him, and guys when referring to MY GIRLS! Here is a pic of Jacob with Bob.

Too Funny!! My son always names them Bob and Fred! Then he forgets which one is which and I rename them!

How do you guys add quotes from other posts into your own replies on this forum? I cant seem to figure out how to do that...

I am going to Baker College in Jackson, graduating in June then taking boards right after that. Im excited it's almost over but it's also sad because my classmates & I have become really good friends (there's only 13 of us).

That's what I've been seeing here...I think I am addicted to the farm life in general!! Just don't have time or money for a bunch of livestock right now lol. Maybe some day! I'll be sure to check in often! My chicks that I've only had for 2 days are already attempting escape from their enclosure. It's pretty funny, the barely have feathers (they're like 10 days old) but they are trying like hell to fly over the edge and it's hilarious. I think I'll have to get a bigger enclosure tomorrow!

Hi Sarah, glad you made it by to say hello

Well, I am happy to report that the silver sebright I was worried about is indeed a girl. My daughter saw her lay an egg today. Yay! But wait...that means I need hearing aids.

Teeville I hear some hens will actually crow - maybe she was trying out a gender change?

Juise- That is a funny story about poison Ivy.

I have a sister who is very allergic them them, but some of my other siblings and I can play in the Ivy patch all day, and not get a itch. Must be in the genes from my mom's side.

I have once casually pluck a Poison Ivy leaf at a friend's place, and he just about had a heart attack, and screamed at me saying ''That is Poison Ivy!!!'' I just laughed and chased him with it.

I agree with Opa, repeated exposure will eventually lead to allergic reaction - that happened to me about 10 years ago. Testing yourself will make that day come even sooner

Babygrl, so far I have something like 70 eggs lined up for the hatch this weekend, but won't be sure of the final number until all my shipped eggs arrive, as the sellers often add extras. You have until Monday the 19th to fill in the number you set.

And I got a call from Sandhill last night, my chicks shipped yesterday so I will have peepers as well as eggs

Jaerhons and a bunch of extras others since they did not have the rose-comb dorkings I was hoping for.

Welcome Sarah92480. Glad to have you here! Lots of good info on here and lots of helpful fellow (fellowette) Michiganders on here. Where in Michigan are you? Lots of folks on here on Western MI, a few in mid MI, a couple up north, and then a handful w/ me in SE MI. So no matter where you are, you have neighbors not too far away. :)

Juise - w/ as much interest as you are getting in your Destiny Farms run, you will be driving all over the state on Sunday! Good luck!

Well I am off to start my day...getting ready to spray the apple trees. Hopefully I will be able to work on my broken tractor this afternoon.

Too bad we're so far apart, my DH has no problem at all processing a bird for me almost at the drop of a hat. As long as I clean out the guts, he does everything else.He loves a good roast chicken, it's his favorite dinner.
OH OH OH- this is a late edit...you could make use of the four Uggo roosters? Cuz I could send them. Seriously. I am at a loss of what to do. My husband isnt interested in processing them...and the crow fest is continuing. I Snatched one up this morning- and it cried Help Help Help in English...so i let him go....
