Beware! Those who have no reaction to poison ivy can suddenly become allergic to it at any time.

I have seen it happen and it was so well deserved.

That had happened to one of my siblings. ( I have 8 siblings, 5 sisters, and 3 brothers, and yes we all have the same parents. :D ) I test myself each spring, but so far I am good. Whew.

As evidence that the age of miracles has not passed, Bonita the EE, who has not laid an egg since last May, gave me an egg today. (Or, rather, I took it... whatever!) She's been apparently healthy and happy and eating well all this time, so I thought she'd just taken an early retirement. Tonight she gave me the stink eye and I could just hear her say, "Maybe if you're nice, I'll give you another one... next year." Well, okay then.

I just cleaned thier brooder and I hear them behind me making propellor noises in the waterer.

Hello Keyt! Miss having you on the thread, hope all is well with you and Aric.

Welcome ladyfeather! Great group of chicken people here, glad to have you! You have to pedal fast to keep up!

I'm going to have to sell eggs at $10 / dozen just to break even..

RaZ - Let me know how you do with that price and I'll raise mine as well.

Juise - I was going to ask about the poision ivy berries as well, but I see you've already explained. Your story reminded me of a friend who told me a story about her mother as a new bride who wanted to set a romantic beautiful table for her new husband's first dinner. She collected pine branches and all kinds of beautiful berries to intertwine among candles on the table. When her husband got home and sat down to dinner he was agast at the array of poision ivy berries decorating the table. Not only that, but his beautiful new bride who was covered in a red rash that lasted for the first two weeks of their marriage and compelled him to sleep on the couch.

She definitely looks related to the Uggos..in fact, I think we need to see the back of her neck, because Im pretty surre Raz dumped his uggos off on you...
and I will let you pick the buddy because I wouldnt want you to treat it like the red-headed stepchild...only there to be a buddy, not to be loved by you...lol...
Nova - Be forewarned, if M2M picks the buddy you will get a rooster.

Welcome Sarah! So nice to have you with us. You'll love it here and learn a lot!

York and Tap - Incredible stories. I'm not looking forward to trying to sell my home when the time comes, but hope it goes better than either of yours did. York, you need to start writing to make some money, you have a gift.
Opa - Good luck fishing!

RBhamer - Your ostrich story had me in stitches. I'm glad you weren't seriously injured; those suckers can kick the tar out of you!

Beautiful day today. I got all the tarps taken off the coop and hope we don't get a major blizzard now.
Off to Florida tomorrrow!

I wonder how
Fife is doing down there? See you all when I get back.

I hate to think of how many posts I'll be behind in a week's time!

Ohmygosh, that is kind of funny, but man would it suck! Have a nice trip!

Right now I work for a collections agency (its awful) but I decided a couple years ago to go back to college and I am now 3 months away from graduating as a veterinary technician! I obviously have a love for animals, if you hadn't noticed before I said that, haha. So that'll be exciting, I'm looking forward to getting a new job, and hopefully very quickly.

I love this site and hope to make a bunch of new friends here, and learn lots of new things about chickens and continue getting great advise from everyone. Thanks for welcoming me to the family!!

Welcome Sarah! Congrats on the graduation- where are you going to school? I am a veterinary technician! Boards are an experience you shall never forget! Or regret!

HEY~ what chicks are you getting from Destiny Farm? AND also- if you are driving all this way, perhaps..just perhaps I could meet you part way and give you Nova's chicks...but maybe not because I will have just had surgery. I do not know how I will feel on Sunday. I may be too broken even though I am in denial of being down. But maybe.

Chickmate- enjoy your vacation! Will you be checking in? I am following you, so perhaps you should have made accommodations for me, ya know...gonna be hard for me to be a spy with you all the way in Florida...

My best friend was "immune" to poison ivy and used to harass me about how severely it would affect me. Many times when when would be hanging treestands he would pull the vines from trees. I have know him for over 50 years and get trying to tell him he shouldn't do that. What he didn't realize is that with each exposure you retain some of the ushinol oil in your system. Eventually you can accumulate enough to overcome that immunity.

Finally, when in his mid 50s he had a reaction to poison ivy. It was so severe that he was practically bedridden for days. Finally his doctor gave him a much stronger steroid based medication to treat it so it so he would be able to accompany me on a hunting trip to Nebraska. On our second day of hunting he had an adverse reaction to the medication interacting with his blood pressure meds and we had to rush him to an emergency room.

So try to avoid poison ivy and others that contain ushinol because sooner or later you will have a reaction.

Oh, that would awesome too! I'd have to send 2 carriers then! Lol. I just may need to contribute a donation to the gas fund more than I was thinking... Give over some car ride entertainment for the darlings... Butter Juise up a bit. Lol.

I am so looking forward to today! I have an appt for my mom, and I am going to be very naughty and stop at Touchstone Dreamers for some pipedream cones. (or, ColdstoneCreamery for some icecream cones. Auto correct)

Juise could you let me know what route you are taking to Destiny Farms?

What expressway? I may have to send my husband to meet you somewhere...depending on the pain factor. If its not too far, he will do it.

Nova...
man...I could be so slick...stuff a box of banties...oh how did all of THOSE get in there?? hahahaha...OH OH OH- this is a late edit...you could make use of the four Uggo roosters? Cuz I could send them. Seriously. I am at a loss of what to do. My husband isnt interested in processing them...and the crow fest is continuing. I Snatched one up this morning- and it cried Help Help Help in English...so i let him go....

THERON-
I have four dUccles and four other kinds of ostrich-chicks in my incubator right now..ONE looks like a chipmunk!

Let's see, I made fun of your dog at the bottom of this page.

Okay.. so.. let's see... I made some ice lanterns last Winter, and I thought it would be cool if I made an ice garland by freezing berries and things in a muffin tin with some twine run through them, so when it froze and I took them out all the little discs would be connected on a string.

Well, I was picking some barberries when I spied these lovely little cream coloured berries, and I thought they were lovely and it would be neat to have those in there, too. >.<

In defense of my intellect, they were in a place that I was quite certain poison ivy had not spread to yet. Apparently not. I finished picking them, and my brain was just starting to nudge me with the fact that they looked awfully familiar, so it was with horror that I looked to where I know vast amounts of poison ivy does grow, followed by a dreadful sinking feeling as my suspicions were confirmed. The very same berries were rampant through the poison ivy patches.

I guess I never realized that they persisted through Fall because they are usually under the cover of snow.

Anyway, I stuck the muffin tin in the closet so the kids wouldn't get it, and ran to scrub the crap out of myself with Technu, I am allergic to poison ivy something first. I was pretty amazed I didn't suffer for it, despite taking care of it immediately.

love the ice lanterns, will have to show my daughter, she will love them also

I went into the coop last night and it looks HUGE now that I have it all cleaned out with fresh pine shaving and DE (had hay bales in there). However I went into panic mode and I couldn't find my silkies + frizzle. They are usually huddled next to the door and it was dark. I found them! Phew!

Since there is so much space....I started collecting eggs. So I've got blue EE eggs, a lone green EE egg, a white Maran egg (big one on the left...I think), and some BR's crossed with Marans. Should be an interesting batch of mutts. Maybe I'll toss in surprise eggs from Robin too! There is lots of space in the turner and the girls only laid 4 eggs yesterday. Anyone want me to attempt to hatch something while I'm at it?
lol.png

I guess I'll join the Easter Hatch Along....do I need to know how many eggs I'm attempting to hatch?...I may not know that until I set on Saturday.
