Anyone like cup of robust coffee. Hope's is grumbling that it is too strong but I sure like it. Got alot of the winter debris cleaned up yesterday and the coops all cleaned. I had a nice conversation with Crystal yesterday. It sure is nice to make contact with everyone. Chickenstock will really be nice. To be able to put faces with the names of everyone that I have met here is going to be great.

Good morning everyone! Haven't been on in a couple of days -- work Yuck!! But I did get yesterday and today off. I can actually enjoy some of the sunshine. Ice is starting to shove out on the Bay - fishing soon!! Yesterday I almost caught a chukar. The kids and I were leaving to go shopping. As I'm backing out of the garage, there it was, sitting on my picnic table. We almost had it. Kids had the large fishing nets to nab it. Those things can fly really fast -- went right between the 2 nets. Boy did we laugh! Pretty bird though. Didn't know what to do with it, - probably taste like partridge - but its the 2nd one we've seen since we've moved in 2 years ago. Someone must raise them by us. Have a great day everyone!!

Good Morning!

Little chilly this morning, but a great day yesterday. Got the coops cleaned and the puppy learned that he cannot play with the chickens. he finally got that he didn't have to come in the coop with me and just needed to lay down and wait.

Kids are feeling better so hopefully it will continue today.

Temp on the bator dropped below 100 last night, hope it will be ok. It has been holding it's own right along, so not sure why it dropped. Up to temp now.

Off to start the day after a hard workout this morning. Exersicing on Monday always seems harder!

Should I candle my eggs tonight (day 8) or wait until day 10?I have never done it before so I am nervous that I won't see what I am supposed too. I have looked at tons of pics and read alot, but I am still nervous.

Sure... why not

I candle earlier than 10 days

But I am also very impatient and worrisome about my eggs LOL I just candled mine last night...finally

I had to throw out about 10

But I have 40 that are looking good!

Mostly mutt eggs of mine

Only one of my Denizli eggs developed... and it has a loose air cell.. so I dunno.

And I have 4, maybe 5, Orp eggs that are developing nicely

So... even after a temp spike and someone (my toddler) shutting off the power strip.... all seems ok. We will see though when hatch day approaches! I'll be a nervous wreck until they actually hatch!

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone's hatches!

Good Morning. Everyone sounds so chipper this morning. That's what warm weather and sunshine does!!

Gonna be another good one. Think I'll take the dogs to the park for a walk.
Derek, glad you're home! Hope you had a great time. It's always so hard to go back to your old routine after a vacation.

It's real easy....

Keep your eggs with the air cell UP... you can turn them like you would in the bator... but never end over end.

Put the light up to the air cell and it will illuminate the inside of the egg. ( I wrap my hand around the end of the light to get a nice 'seal' against the egg)

Darker eggs can be tricky.... start with your lightest eggs. You will see it and it will be great! Little veins and a little blob of a baby chicken!
