Sorry to hear about the sick kids. That is always so difficult... and migraines, I went 3 years having them and the dr. saying I wasn't only to find out they were hormonal migraines which the doctor didn't seem to know much about.

My son found the first guinea egg of the season today. A bit on the early side! Two months earlier than last year.

Absolutely HATING this weather. It's 30 degrees and 20+ mph winds. I didn't even go visit the chicken this morning - I sent my son! I have to go feed and water them shortly. No desire to go out but...

I just spent the last 4 hours driving all over the place dispersing my resume to a bunch of animal clinics. Whew, that is a lot of work! Not to mention expensive; I see that gas went up to 4.15 a gallon while I was out! Good thing I got some when I started out this morning, it was 3.84 then. Jerks!! Keep your fingers cross that at least one of those places will call me (majority of them said they werent hiring...darn)!!

Its only 50 degrees out & kind of windy, partly cloudy...think its too cold to take my 3 wk olds out for an hour or 2?
Sarah, I don't know where you are but in Grand Rapids it is only 43 degrees.
And we have a cool breeze that woud not be very good for young birds who are not fully feathered and don't have a mama hen to scoot under for warmth. I think by 5/6 weeks chickens are fully feathered.

RaZ - I think we just barely missed freezing and losing a lot of fruit this season.

Sorry about your drake, UN.
Sorry about the sick kids. Must be hard on a kid. My DH has them sometimes and it knocks him for a loop.
Not too bad of a day out there. When the sun comes out and wind stops, it's kinda nice. So, just run out when you see the sun out and do your chores. Had to take the dogs for a walk. They don't care if it's cold. They like it better when it's colder out.
Hope you find that duckling, Raz. Poor thing all alone and cold.

My low dropped to 21. I had sheets over the 3 lilacs with buds and over 7 rose bushes. Since the roses only have leaves I figure they'll be okay, I really was only worried about the 3 that I planted just last spring, everything else has had more than a year to become established. But the lilac buds just don't look good today. 4 more nights coming with 32-34 predicted which means a few degrees colder for me. Last night's forecast was 26. I Just wish the wind would die back down, can't keep anything covered with it gusting to 20 mph.

So did everyone get through the cold night? How are your plants and critters?
We did OK down here. It must not have frosted.

Well I took them out for about 45 min anyway, they were in the lean-to side of the shed with me where their coop is and it was somewhat sheltered from the wind. 45 min was as much as I could stand; they didnt act cold and didnt want to come back inside, but i thought if i was cold they must be. At least they got a few minutes to run around and eat some bugs. I feel they must be so bored stuck in the brooder all the time! Wish it would get decently warm again so I could get them moved out. I will miss there cute little peeps all the time though....lol

I hear you...Im not sure if it frosted last night here or not, but I covered my tulips and hyacinth, woke up to the covers blown across the yard so who knows when that happened. The tulips look ok but the hyacinth is a little shriveled...too bad. At least they're not a very long-lived flower anyway. If it weren't for the wind here, it probably wouldn't be too bad out.

Thank you, Michigan, and good night. Thank you for your friendship and letting me hang out with you all. You folks are awesome.

UN - We love your company and you are always welcome here. You are an official honorary Michigander!

I was looking at cherry varieties online last night and came across Apricots rated for this area. I didn't know you could grow them up here. Now I'm definitely thinking just six cherry trees to save room for a few apricots, too.

Olive - My brother used to live in Hillsdale, MI and they had several dwarf apricot trees that produced the biggest, sweetest apricots I've ever had. One of my favorite fruits!

Mutt - You were right about my air egg, it didn't have a yolk.

I'm also concerned about Daron. Haven't heard from him in some time. Hope he's just very busy, but even when he is he usually at least checks in and says hello.

I'm going to yell for him so cover your ears:

DARON, WHERE ARE YOU?? WE ARE WORRIED AND MISS YOU!! ARE YOU OK? PLEASE LET US KNOW!
