This last round of chicks I got, I ended up starting with purina medicated, then went to the purina flock raiser sunfresh recipe. I am having a problem keeping the bigs out of it.. SO, now I have a huge bowl of shell set out for them also. I was just using small dish in the coop, and would refill as needed. NOW, since they are only eating their layer feed in their coop and going in to the littles coop to eat their food during the day, or the littles in the garage... Well. UGH! Hwo do you work around that? I have the layer feed up higher so that the bigs can get it, but the little can not in the big coop, since that is where Skeeter and her babies are. But anyway, as much as I'd like to do an organic route here also, it really is not in my budget. HOWEVER, with as much as they are free ranging spring summer and fall, I really do not feel that it is a big deal, since now I really am only supplementing their free ranging. HALALUJEA! Feed cost go down in the growing season. WOOT WOOT!

Any way... I went with the 50# bags. SO DO NOT get the little bags. You will be at the feed store every other day with those. Get the 50 first off. It will not last you 8 weeks. It really won't.

Still here, and never mind the showers, I fell down in the goat field, and I reckon i need a shower now!

Any way... I went with the 50# bags. SO DO NOT get the little bags. You will be at the feed store every other day with those. Get the 50 first off. It will not last you 8 weeks. It really won't.

Last time himself went to the feedstore, he got some #80 bags - they were cheaper, but slightly higher in protein, course he bought a ton #2000 lb (really, well, just a few pounds under, but he also bought bunny food and goat food too) so he got a good deal on it.

I got some game birds starter for mine - like to have them on it for the first week - get them off to a flying start so to speak

I am very certain she is the pure faverolle. She is near an exact copy of Buffy.

Here is the ugly chick Belle Mai. She's is something else. Look at that beard! Her head/crest feathers are finally not looking so... mohawk-ish. LOL
NOW for her brother...

Where are the toes? There really are five toes there... I think he rivals Moms chick in the foot feather department... and now for the rest of him...

He's actually uglier than Belle Mai... Cuz he just looks like he doesn't know what he wants to look like. He has mottled skin. Its black in some places and pink in others! He has a single comb. The mulberry is pretty much flat. AND the comb is red... he's already getting red wattles too.

You are lucky you found this site before you got chicks. If I had found it when I first got chicks, I would have done a lot of things different right from the get go.

You are right. Very thankful I have stumbled across BYC. I have asked a few questions, and I am sure I will run into a lot more as the time gets close to get the chicks and after they come. Thanks again.
