Does the chickenstock pavillion have a kitchen?

Canning isn't that difficult, just start with something easy like tomatoes or green beans. I've canned with both pressure cookers and simple boiling. For lunch I had a jar of green beans that I canned with a garlic clove. The date on the lid was 2010. So if it kills me, I'll post tomorrow and let you know.
I read a magazine article that claimed that most summer food poisoning came from the onions going bad and not the mayonaise. I can't vouch for the validity of the article but I'll keep open onions until they get soft and mushy. But then again, I eat raw hamburger.

First highlighted sentence = hilarious!
2nd highlighted sentence = GROSS.

Oh how sad! I lost two hens after they were broody. I wonder if the sitting that they do weakens them and allows other problems to emerge?
Fuzzy it is a natural thing for a hen to go broody and sit so all I can think of was that they must have had some weakness. I lost one to an egg laid the wrong direction after she was weak from being broody and I lost one to the respiratory infection. What do you think Rose died from?
Again, not your fault but still VERY VERY sad!

She got constipated. :( I misread the symptoms, which was very little eating, diarrhea, not walking well, mouth gaping sometimes. I thought at first that she had resperitory problems from getting wet and chilled, and then when i examined her the first time after seeing the liquid white urates i didn't find the lump. It wasn't until she was pretty far along that i found the lump, and i massaged it and tried the vasoline, but it gave her too much pain and didn't help.

So i held her a lot and gave her a bath so she was clean, she kept trying to clean herself but she was too weak. She wouldn't eat, but she would nibble at bread pieces, and she seemed to perk up a little, so i had high hopes that she would pass it. Sadly, she was not able. I also brought her to the others yesterday, when i did my cleaning, and put her on the perch with them for a bit. I also brought her body for the others to see today, before i buried her. My roo and my lap hen (round girl) understood. They were her closest friends, and i wanted them to understand that she wasn't coming back. This was when she laid her first egg.

Making jam is easy, it's just simmering sugar and fruit together and putting it in a super clean boiled hot jar.

It's getting fruit in the wonky MI weather we've had the last couple years that's hard!

How big is your kitchen?

How many people are you planning on bringing?

Have I gotten myself into more than I imagined?

No, seriously though, my kitchen is big enough to accommodate a small group. It's 15x15-ish, 15x20 during the canning season when I put up the temporary table by the back door to extend my space. It isn't fancy, but it's functional and there's enough room for a few adults.

Reading all this talk about canning is making me long for summer. We have wild black raspberries in the woods, rhubarb and strawberries in the garden, two pear trees, two blueberry bushes, two cherry trees and one small apple orchard. I spend most of my summer canning jams, veggies, making applesauses and anything else we can come up with. We even have two kitchens so I can keep harvesting and canning while cooking dinners.

I really had a hard time typing this, while watching my son eating fried rice.

He takes a very small bite of rice and washes it down with water, while the rice is still in his mouth. He even growled at the rice once. Two large glasses of water later he finally finished the small amount of rice. I don't understand how a kid will eat Kvas, but won't eat rice or anything with rice in it!

I am so sorry about your hen..every now and then one of them is very special and its very sad to lose them. I felt that way about Carmen- the only chicken I have had that had a real name..

Two eggs that are due on Friday are peeping loudly...so I pulled the eggs out from under my broody and stuck them under her.
