Olive -I would love to can but would not want to impose. I suppose we could prepare the fruit or item to be canned in our own kitchen and just do the actual canning part together in your kitchen.
And we could bring our own jars and even pots/pressure cookers.
I would love to do tomatoes and jams.

I don't understand how a kid will eat Kvas, but won't eat rice or anything with rice in it!

My husband won't eat rice. He says it reminds him too much of maggots.

wanna guess what any of the people at the store thought when I bought enough douche to soak a Great Dane?

Olive..your kitchen is too far away from me.
I would really enjoy seeing your farm, and learning how to can. My grandmother used to make grape jelly from the grapes off her vines.
I never paid any attention.

THen, when I lived with my Gram and Gramps in Tennessee, I was too busy being a teenager to pay attention when they canned EVERYTHING..back then, I was trying to find a reason NOT to be in the kitchen with them...now I wish...

WOOHOO! PARTY AT OLIVE'S!

HH, I have been having posting problems on my regular computer, phone still works ok

In a moment of weakness I ordered silkie eggs. Then, conveniently forgetting it, I ordered more silkie eggs. Then in a moment of rebellion (Don't you have enough chicks already?) I ordered more cochin bantam eggs.

I also brought her body for the others to see today, before i buried her. My roo and my lap hen (round girl) understood. They were her closest friends, and i wanted them to understand that she wasn't coming back.
I have seen that myself. They know when one of their own are dead. I have even had a hen follow me and look in the hole as I buried her friend. We underestimate these creatures.

RaZ- :P

I want to learn to can. My bio mom says she will teach me.

Fuzzy, sorry about Rose. That being said, Leila is only just a year, and she is on her second brood. She has also turned into the biggest (b)witch ever. I am going to be setting her up in solitary this weekend. She's due to hatch them silkie babies on the 17th. Wow. She is very food aggressive when she comes out to eat. She is also the filthiest right now. Her current littles get all over her... Have crapped on her! Ugh!

I couldn't believe 69 posts while I was gone today! Chattering. Good canning and recipe info.

I have to go empty chicken and duck food out of my car....

Don't be silly. Some stuff I have, others I buy from local farms -- but it's cheaper to buy in bulk so it would make no sense for everyone to have to buy small amounts themselves. It's not an imposition at all. And I already have all the equipment, no sense in you going out and buying it until you decide if you would like using it regularly. I would probably just ask that whomever wanted to come pitch in a small amount just to cover the ingredients and jars and then you can just take home what you can. Just decide what you'd like to learn to can and let me know. I'll let you know when the season is getting into swing and you can drop by. Or, for anyone who is not a hands on learner and doesn't mind a written tutorial that's an option, too. :)

ETA: Or if you don't want to take anything home, just come and learn for free and I'll keep the products. Haha!
