M2EA- installing a hot wire is really quite easy and I have sent my cell phone # to you if you would like me to explain how to do it. I've never had much of a problem with the deer jumping into the garden. For years I have planted pole beans on the fence without any problem. Two years ago they started browsing on the beans. I added a hot wire with a standoff and that helped but the T-posts don't lend well to using standoffs.

Good morning everyone!

Son, daughter in law and grandson are coming over for breakfast this morning....bacon, eggs, toast, coffee and juice.

Good morning-----I cannot believe how much action goes on on here when I am snoozing away!!

Cat/MJ---the coop in precious!!! Hope to see more pics.

Opa----for deer troubles have you ever tried hunks of Irish Spring soap or little bags of hair? We had troubles for a bit last year in our garden, but as soon as I bought the soap and went up town to the beauty palor and got some hair to put in old nylons, the deer stopped visiting. I have my items in the garage, ready and waiting if the deer return this year.

Wylie---we have TONS of wildlife around here. (southern Tuscola county)
A neighbor and a friend have both seen bald eagles in the last couple of weeks----and they live on opposite sides of town. Besides tons of deer, turkeys, opposum, raccoons, coyotes and all the usual we have big cats. There are lynx and also larger, cougar sized ones. I know, I know---lots of folks and the DNR say they are not around, but I have seen 3 in the last few years. One was the normal tan and the other 2 were black. Back in the fall hubby called me to look out the window one morning and asked what I saw. I said I saw our old black tom cat. He said look again-----it was then that I noticed that the animals back was as tall as the tires on a piece of equipement that was parked back by where we saw it. It walked away, down towards the woods and moved like a cat, not a dog at all. We have also seen tracks on some property we own a few miles away and last winter tv 12 did a report on the evening news of some people south of here who have been sighting them for a few years and knew of someone who had caught a pic on their game cam---looked just like what we saw.

I hope you all have a great day today. I have one comment on the whole "MJ's place infects you with the chicken posession virus" thing. Yesterday, as we were getting ready to go to the horse auction my little DD asked if for her birthday we could go to the "chicken ladie's house". See, the virus can even affect young children!!
The thumb is a very interesting place, I am learning!!

BlueberryLou, mine daughter is hoping for and every other weekend living arrangement, lolololololol... it only gets worse! (Just Kidding MJ- kind of lol.)

You know what it is at MJ's- a fun, safe place our kids can learn and just be while we all fellowship.

My new 'Dollcoop" is wonderful! It is so well made- the wood seems a little thicker to me than normal- is it, MJ? The side door will be great for cleaning out the coop. It is really heavy... they had to bring it in on rollers, lol. We are going to put it up on pallets, off the ground and but it up to the run. Hubby has some fence cutting to do!

What a pretty name, Steve!

Yes---I agree about MJ's. It's just a nice place to be. Maybe she can open up a side business as a all inclusive resort for kids. All inclusive meaning meals and cleaning out the coop. For some reason, kids think it's fun to scoop poop and do chores at someone else's house. I bet they would even pay for they chance. At home, it's another matter, as every parent knows!!

Mornin all- Nice to see hillsdale worked out for some. Hope everyone is enjoying the weather.

Cat/MJ- Nice coop moving plan looks like it worked well.

questions

Does the hot wire cost much to run? What was that garden site(forum)? I visited and didn't mark.

I'm working on a redwood post rail compost box. Tools- wood -smell all next to the flock-Insert tim allen grunting

Adding Hot Wireprotection is really that expensive. All of the parts can be purchased at Tractor Supply or most feed stores. A 2 mile Zabera 2 miles fencer (energizer) is $18. 100' of wire- about $4. Insulators $3. You will need to install a ground rod and I would recommend using 2 and 3 is even better. The instructions that come with the fencer show installation procedures quite well. It's a great way to prevent predators from getting in.

Morning everyone!

I didn't get a chance to read everything I missed.

We had a great time at the auction yesterday, really fun to see what stuff goes for.
Some big muscovy drakes went for $13,
Two big royal palm looking turkeys went $22 each and a cute little black pygmy goat went for free!
Big Russ said no way to the goat. I didn't get anything because I am so afraid of disease, my flock is so healthy and pretty I didn't want to bring anything home.
DD liked a bunny, but it had runny snotty eyes so I told her no. Maybe next week!

I did candle my eggs in the bator and only had to take out 4 out of 60!

Cystal-all your batam eggs look great the dark ones I can't tell, but to me look non-developing, I hope I am wrong, they don't smell so I am hoping they surprise me and hatch next weekend.
