I am certain it is only one, though... and probably Mr Special.

Mr. Special...

Ours must have heard me telling DH that I was dropping him back off at my mom's (we took him from her barn as a kitten, his sister is still there) last night, this morning he delivered a dead mouse to my feet. "Look, Mom. I hunt!" Unfortunately for him there are no shortage of cats who can catch mice and while I'll miss the little stinker, I won't miss him enough to deal with cat pee. Frankly, I have little patience for the litter box as it is. Cats are not my thing, but then mice are even less my thing so he'll have a replacement before long. Seems keeping a cat around is about the only way to keep them away here. Otherwise they come in from the fields. We've done traps, poison, those little ultrasonic plug-in doo-dads. Whatever it is, the presence of a cat is the only thing that keeps them at bay.

Ladyfeather, I am in need of branching out, I am run out and there are only so many times I can reread my favourite authors, no matter how good they are. I like sci fi / fantasy, but also like things like Sherlock Holmes, Jules Verne, etc., you get the idea. I have a hard time trying to find new authors, there are so many trashy / poorly written sci fi books out there.

I will not read Stephen King, or Terry Goodkind, which seem to be the first things people suggest to me for some reason. I do not like them, I think they are terribly cheesy and poorly written, so I will get that out of the way and hope I didn't just terribly crush anyone, lol.

On the subject of cheesy and poorly written, however, I will admit a guilty love of The Wheel of Time series, though.. and I feel kind of crappy for saying it, since the man died, but... I love it so much more since Brandon Sanderson took over, he is very, very talented.

lol I love the wheel of time series but i do think on am behind. Last read book 12. A bit put off by the series because i felt like the original author just couldnt come up with an ending or was milking it for all it was worth.
King is one of my favorites. Just read 11/23/63. Hope i got the date right. Very good book..

Olive the only thing about the city are the people invading my space, oh well.

Did anyone go to Fowl Fest today? I did and boy was it ever cold. The chickens were so awesome!! Just beautiful. They were sooooooo big! So many pretty breeds and some just plain silly looking that now I got to get one.

Recently read the George R.R. Martin series and started watching the HBO series

. I've always loved reading and turn more to quantity than quality... although there are some great epic fantasies out there. I'm always looking for new although I read so much that after a few years I can also re-read and it's almost a new book. With the new Brian Herbert prequels to Frank Herbert's Dune I'm back into that series. The book I have open is Betrayal in Winter by Daniel Abraham. My recommendation from recent reading is the Kingkiller Chronicles. I also enjoyed Repairman Jack and Dresden Files.
I don't have HBO so I'll have to get the DVDs.
I read everyday so I go through a lot of books and genres. I'll read anything and re-read a lot of what I have.
I'll have to look for the Dune prequels.

Books I recommend:

Nearly everything by Mercedes Lackey
The Honor Series by Diana Pharaoh Francis
Guildwright Saga by Mindy L Klasky
Forgotten Beasts of Eld By Patricia McKillip
The Lon Tobyn Chronicle David B Coe
Dragon Riders of Pern
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley
The Hero and The Crown by Robin Mckinley
Poison Study by Maria v Snyder
The Band of Four novels by Ed Greenwood
Dresden Files (recommended by my husband)
Most anything by Tamora Pierce (though it is geared toward teens)
At The Queens Command by Michael Stackpole
Temeraire's series by Naomi Novik
Left hand of God by Paul Hoffman (husband)
The Apprentice Adept series by Piers Anthony
The Hammer by KJ Parker (husband)
Brother Odd by Dean Koontz (my mom loves this)
Wolf series by Jane Lindskold
Noble Dead Series by Barb and JC Hendee

I'm not as embarrassed by some of the other books I read like paranormal romance since my reading interests are fairly diverse. For that stuff the early books of Laurell K Hamilton are great but they turn into something I wouldn't read in public around book 10-16 but she's come back around.

If I glance at my bookshelf tonight I will toss a few more out.

The dune prequels are really quite good.

RaZ, you will be amazed at how well HBO did game of thrones. Followed it very well except for the ages of the children. Example... Ricken was 3, but they made him about 6. I just finished DRAGONS... And I was ticked off. It really was a fill in the blanks book, but at least we know what happens to everyone... AND, he better not take so long on the next installment. It was a good read though.

I also must say, on another book note, I was not impressed with Auel's last book in the Earths children series... Land of Painted Caves.... To long.... To much... Just to much... You could literally skip the first 150 pages or so and not miss anything.

I remember as a kid, we'd eat the clovers and their purple flowers. So yum yum. I have not taught the boys that they are edible. Their father would FREAK!

Hamilton is certainly an acquired taste and I don't like her Merry Gentry books. I usually hate first person anything but the Anita Blake series really pulled me in until she went temporarily pornographic.

My favorite book of all time is Enchantress from the Stars. I can never remember the author but it is a book I found in middle school and never forgot. The usual genres I loved like vampires, shapeshifters, etc have all gone to seed so it is rarely worth slogging through the stuff printed just to make a buck. We just picked up some great stuff from the Bookstock so I will have to write those down.

I know what you guys are saying when they get too pornographic...to me, if a book has naughty stuff in it, it's fine as long as it would still be a good read, a good story, w/o the naughty parts. But there's some authors that just want to write about sex and try to wrap a story around THAT...and those usually fail.

Don't tell me this!! I love that series, and I've been waiting for that book to come out for 10 years. My mom got it for me for Christmas so I'm rereading the 1st five right now...I'm finally half way through #5. Oh I hope I like it better than you did Nova!! lol
