Took the pup for his first truck ride to the mill today. I hadn't taken him anywhere yet because his last round of puppy shots won't be complete until next week, but at the mill it's just a quick in and out to pay our feed bill so I didn't even have to sit him down. It's also a quick trip -- just 10 miles each way vs the 30 minimum to go anywhere else. He did well enough, but wasn't terribly impressed. He did perk up a little bit on the way home, so that's good. We'll have to work on his travel-ability.

I buy almost all my eggs online, and have very mixed success with them. There is no doubt that shipping is very hard on the eggs. Several batches this year have had a 0% hatch rate, although usually I do a little better. I do follow Aveca's instructions except I usually start turning after 5 days.

I have selected all my blue eggs this year according to the blue color, so hopefully there will be some nice blue egg layers. My wheatons did not do well, had 5 hatch but 2 had bad leg deformities and had to be put down. I am a little wary of picking eggs simply based on egg color, as I am looking for good layers too, but thought I would try for some bright blues. More blue eggs coming this week!

I got to sneak out of work for a bit and wanted to see how everyone was doing. Sounds likes everything is just Chicky & ducky! Skimmed the posts for there way too many, I've only been popping on here & there.

Nice looking pics of coops. They'll be real nice when finished!!

I'm still trying to break my Orp that is going/gone broody. Today when I checked on her she was sitting on 7 eggs. I take her out of the coop 2-3 times a day and make her mingle when the others are free ranging.....I shut the pen door!! She currently is dust bathing in their favorite spot. Wonder if she'll get mad when I put her back in the pen when it's time for me to leave??

TSC up in my area has the Tin Sculptured Roosters on Sale. ..20% off and I think the sales ad is the same for all stores throughout MI. So who ever wanted one just as bad as I did.....now's the time. I went and got myself one for Mother's Day!!

Hey everybody what a beautiful day outside today. Chicks are outside loving it and I could watch them all day. Anywho here are the pics I said I'd have today hope you guys and gals like them.

Looks good! I love watching my chickens too. Sure beats housework!

I was going to shovel out the chicken coop and mow the lawn today, but to hell with it, it's my birthday, we're going to the park instead. Have a nice day everyone!

Juise - I thought of you this weekend when I was mowing. Lol I ran over a little white moth which didn't bother me but it reminded me of what you might do. What DID bother me was the massive toad I dissected unknowingly. *shudder*


Here's Miss Waffles today with some of her new teenage feathers. Can't wait to see her "all grown up". Before I saw these pretty feathers pop out I was convinced she was a strange almost porcelain d'uccle. Lol They are really pretty in the sun.

Seems they come in all sorts. I've had some that never minded, some that didn't like riding but then learned to, and one that didn't like it to begin with and never did change his mind. Of course, the latter of those three is a dog who gets car sick. Poor fella drools buckets the second the vehicle starts moving.

To move the topsoil, I used the lawn tractor and cart. Now there is a valid reason that these machines have a cup holder. And my cup holder had a an adult beverage. Crabby was home and saw what I was doing.

About 10-15 minutes later a police car cruises by and stops in front of my house. The police man watches me for a couple of minutes then slowly drives around the corner. He stops there for a bit then moves on. The same cop cruises by 3 times in the next half-hour. Each time I was shoveling dirt and not "driving" the tractor, but the beer was clearly sitting out in the open.

So can you get a DUI while mowing?

Anyway. I have 2 chicks out. I was worried this morning when I checked Skatter. After what she tried to do to the dottes that I picked up for her, I was a bit concerned. Well, I found her one chick, and took it out and checked it out and almost was tempted to take it away when Skatter started attacking it when I put it back in. I shoved it farther back under her and crossed my fingers that it'd still be alive when I got home from work. I think Skatter has realised that it came out of her eggs because she's now super duper I am going to kill you if you touch me chicken. Yup. I think its all good. The 2nd chick however I am not sure if it will make it. I checked her when I got home, and got the egg shell out from chick number 2, but no chick! Well I took her out of the nest, handed the one chick to my son, and started to look thru the nest material and I found the chick. It was cold, not fluffed, but still alive, so, I cupped it in my hands to warm it up, picked the straw off, and handed that to my mom, and she was totally freaked out by it. I told her to keep holding it. I got Skatter back in the nest box, stuffed the fluffy chick under her, and then took the other chick and shoved that one even farther under her. Crossing my fingers that it survives, and that the other two will hatch with out incident. I do have a pic of the first chick. Its a FAV/GLD. The second one is also a FAV/GLD. The faverolle egg is also pipped and was starting to zip, as well as Skeeters egg. SO... OH, and she has decided that her little broody area is just perfect for her and she is not trying to kill herself getting out anymore.

I started the stain/paint process on the A-Frame. I let the kids help. Yup. That was adventurous. Yup. Paint where I didn't want it... Paint all over the boys... I am glad they had fun though. All I had to do was clean up the excess paint, and spread it out more.

Well, I have to go and take care of my duckies.
