The grocery store charges $4.39 for organic eggs that are not as large, heavy or yummy as you all raise!
I pay $4.50 when I get them from a BYC member and my friends are happy to pay that also when she has extra for them.

Teeville... Farmville!!!

"Mom, just come on over and we can play that for real!!!" ... You might blow her mind!
I tell her that every time. LOL She lives in TN and has only been able to visit our farm once. Quite funny because that was when my first chickens were just getting ready to move out of the brooder and as she approached it one of the girls flew up and scared my mom. I swear I've never seen her jump so high before.

BF wakes up realizes that his work uniforms did not get dried yesterday... Not sure why this is my fault seeing as I did not wash them and had no idea they were sitting in the washer.

PS. I am pretty sure he has 2 arms and legs and can wield a vacuum just as well as I can...

My DH suffers this syndrome. It only really annoys me when the car in almost out of gas. How do you drive and not realize you are very close to walking? But in his defense, he was the youngest in his family and only one still at home for 5 years so his mom spoiled him terribly by doing everything for him. Apparently, not an easy thing to unlearn, but I've made a little progress with him. He steps in and helps when he sees I'm getting truly frazzled.

btw, I think my DH would be lost trying to start my washer. Too many flashy buttons and thing-ama-jigs. But it's all good, I do laundry at night after he goes to work. Gives me time to catch up on here while still being productive.

My friends and I have a different philosophy than our parents because we don't believe the house has to be spotless constantly and a few dirty dishes in the sink won't be the end of the world. So long as it isn't a scene from Hoarders we don't get too uptight about it.
I agree.

Ok, thank-you everyone. 2 of the chickens have mites but not the rest. I powdered everybody the first time. With the pymetherin do I need to throw out eggs for a while after treating the birds?
Hi Ellie,
I use the Adams Flea and Tick Spray that you can get at the pet store and maybe at the farm store. I like it because it is premixed. Like Hillbilly Hen said, I just spray a bit under the wings and on the butt (by the vent where the egg comes out) because that is where mites like to hang out. I have not ever stopped using the eggs. Hope this helps you!

RaZ - that is another lucky duck!

Thanks chicken grandma...my mind was drawing a blank, I knew it was Adams something for dogs

He told her that they do not have a gate, but they will get one soon- and then they were going to BUILD A CHICKEN COOP and get themselves some of their own chickens!!!

Hey, at least you don't need to worry about them filing complaints against you! I agree, though, that is a bit creepy. Maybe they really stare over the fence and freak you out so much because they actually just really like watching the chickens?

Don't think any of the eggs will be hatching.

Juise, you should put your young birds in at night so that they "learn" where they should sleep. The best way to do this is to leave them shut inside the coop for 2-3 days before letting them out. If it rains they will not be able to get inside after dark, and may get soaked and become ill. They are also a lot more attractive to predators, which may be tempted to test your pen - and every pen has a few weak spots.

They are in the same place they have been, the only thing that has changed is the roost, and the new one is even in the same spot!

They can get inside if it rains, I leave the coop door open. I am pretty confident in our coop and run... so far.

The run is completely covered in hardware cloth, on top as well, and we have a 3 foot wide hardware cloth apron all the way around both the coop and run, and coming up the first foot and a half of the coop wall as well. One of these days I will have to post a picture of it... So mostly I was trying to figure out if they would get too cold sleeping out in the run.

I always let them choose their birthday dinner and Nathaniel actually asked if he could make the dinner himself.

Neat!

In short, I would rather have a messy house and happy kids than a happy BF and a spotless house...
Sucks to be him... PS. I am pretty sure he has 2 arms and legs and can wield a vacuum just as well as I can...

I agree, I mostly just try to make sure the house isn't gross. Messy = okay, nasty = no. Of course, I am sure some people would find the messy nasty, but oh well. I get to the rest of the things as I can, but I have laundry on my couch more often than not. I am of the opinion that my children will probably remember all the cool things we did together rather than the fact that there was often laundry unfolded and all the toys didn't get picked up every day.

I agree that we need to remember to appreciate each other, and that we never know how long we have together, and that that time should be treasured. But if he feels that the house needs to be spotless to show how much you love him, while you are caring for 3 tiny people, he needs a reality check. Like a day with the kids, ROFL. Every time my DH had a whole day home with us, he remembers how much I have to do all day every day, and how much stress I endure. Don't get me wrong, I love the small mammals, but they sure know how to send my frustration level through the roof! He will often tell me, especially on a day that he gets home and the kids are being insane, "Every day that I come home and I am still a father, I am amazed with you."
gig.gif
We used to run a home daycare together, though, so he really, actually, well and truly understands just how much work taking care of children is, and he **** well knows that what I do all day is way more work and way more stress than what he does all day. And he also agrees that being involved with our kids is more important than shining the sink every day.

I have a sign in my kitchen that says "Although you'll find my house a mess, come in, sit down, converse. It doesn't always look like this, some days it's even worse."

Haha, this reminded me, one of my friends has a plaque in her livingroom that reads, "My house was spotless yesterday, sorry you missed it."

Ok so I brought my babies home about an hour ago

Grats on the new chicks!

Cute!!

It looks I am officially running an orphanage now. M2M just brought me another duckling. Little guy moved right in with the bigger ducklings.

Aww, I especially love these two pics.

Just curious what most of you are charging for eggs. I have a sign that asks people to leave what they feel is fair and to place money in the slot. The least anyone has left was $3 and $5 is left quite often.
I've been charging friends $3 per dozen. Maybe I should up it to $4.

I have been wanting to ask this, since we soon will be trying to sell off some of our eggs. Those of you who sell eggs at your house, what is your method pretty please?

You and me both. Did you keep the Lop? Have her scanned? I saw she may be preggers. If so you'll have to rehome a litter, eh? Just curious.

John
Yep, we have the lop, Cheeks is her name. No microchip. No babies, either. Got her a big ol cage in my daughters room *sigh*, and some toys- and she stopped pulling out her fur- and plays soccer with her big ball with the bell in it all day long now.
Thankfully, I do not have to rehome a litter. Mutt bunnies are probably hard to find a home for.
I wanted to get the big chicken from TSC, but they were all gone.

me too! booo!

maybe...but they creep me out. lol

BF likes to complain that the house is always a mess, and for only having 2 people and no kids it can get a bit messy, but I can always get it clean in a short time. I've taken up trying to clean the garage recently, and there's actually room to walk without stepping over anything now, but cold and rainy weather has put a stop to that. It gets far too dusty to clean in there without the door open. Eventually I want to drag everything out and reorganize it so that maybe, just maybe, we could fit a car in there. That will have to be on a weekend so BF can help out.

When the weather gets consistently nice, I want to move a bunch of the furniture and wash the carpets. That's part of the spring cleaning routine, and along side spring cleaning I want to make a list of items we could put out in a garage sale. There's a bunch of stuff we don't use around here, just taking up space and it's getting to be that time of year. Anything that goes unsold will find it's way to Goodwill, Salvation Army or some other resale shop.

On the lines of lost teeth, what do you do with them? I've been curious about it for the past couple days after recalling that I had kept all of my lost teeth in a jewelery box drawer.
My parents never did the 'tooth fairy' thing with us, we just showed the tooth and got a bit of change, then got to do whatever we wanted with the tooth. My siblings usually tossed theirs in the garbage but I, for some creepy reason, decided to keep mine tucked away. What do parents who take the teeth do with them? Throw them out, tuck them in a box, let the kids choose?
