Hey all,

I probably won't be on much between now and next week. My son just arrived on leave from the Marine Corps in California, and my daughter flies in tomorrow morning down in GR. They are coming in for dad's internment. Appreciate what you have, enjoy it while it lasts. My kids will only be visiting for a few days. We will be sharing many memories of dad, and laying his ashes to rest. Friends, family, support and strength.

I think I'm going to need one of those (in)famous updates when I get back on!

Brethren,

So sorry for the loss of your dad. Glad your mom has found a focus. I don't have any of the breeds that you mentioned. Sorry. You're up by T.C. right?

Well, if I remember correctly from our chat you also don't have two kids, four dogs, a house bunny and a beta fish named Rosie to clean up after.

Makes a BIG difference.

Oh ha, fair point. The dog and cat get a bit whiffy and dusty but yeah, you have a bit more to tidy up than I do. (whew, I'm not a total slag - I'd ask if you were just being nice but... you're Olive :p )

About half way between Manistee and Cadillac, South of TC. Breeds are labels, IMO. They don't matter so much unless you are showing or selling. Give me a good personality and something that doesn't hurt the eyes, AND lays a good egg. Good enough for me.

Might consider ordering some, but won't give up on trying to incubate. Don't want to order a major number though. Who sells a small number without charging an arm and a leg?

So sorry for you and your dads loss.

The rainbow on my way home tonight was incredible!

8 little Turkey chicks so far! Mom is so determined to sit on her pile of eggs, I decided to pull the chicks... it's been 3 days for some and she's not getting up, so, glad she is determined, but I'm going to baby site for a while!

YIPPEE!!! I am so happy for you Daron! Now you know how to keep it from getting through the eggs!

Yep, I will start putting the pullets and hens with the right roos in different pens, and start saving the eggs a few days after that. And will collect/save the eggs for 3 weeks, then kill all of the infected birds :hit , then dip the eggs, and incubate them. :woot Then I am on my way to Mycoplasma gallisepticum free flock! I am so happy! :celebrate

Ok... Don't know if I have said this or not already... has been a long busy day.

Skatter has taken to Mommy-hood just fine. She's realized that those little creepy crawly things under her are what comes out of the eggs. She hasn't pecked a single one since the first hatched. Its doing fine too. She's moved them out of the nest box/cat carrier right next to the food and water, so I took the carrier out so they'd have all the room in the broody box. She has one super tiny little black one that came out of Skeeters egg. The other three, all look like chickmunks. All 3 have faverolle beards. I am not sure which one is the faverolle chick though. Even though 2 are FAV/GLD crosses, they came out light, look like faverolle chicks. OH, and they all have 5 toes on each foot. The chick that got a bad start is thriving as well.

Skeeters first hatch is still sticking pretty close to the coop. Roopert is being a terror to them. And I do mean a terror. He will not go in the big coop though. Mr. Fluffer whoops his butt if he catches him in there. Well 2 weeks is too long. Roger hates being locked up, too. I need to get that A-Frame finished. I haven't finished it yet, cuz it needs to be moved into place. I think once it is where I want it, it'll stay there... I was looking at wheels for it... but how to attach? Well, I know how to attach them, but thats not what I mean. How to attach them so they are up in the tractor, and the bottom of the tractor still practically touches the ground? I want to be able to move it forward a few feet every week... I'll get it rigged... I'll duck tape them into place! Just kidding.

Gotta go to bed now. I am tired.
