Yesterday's dinner with Hope's family was nice. The food turned out excellent as was to be expected and the only downside was the two daughter in laws tried to out lazy each other. Neither made any attempt to help with the cleanup afterwards and I feel that is just wrong. On a positive note, Hope went and got her step father from the care facility and the change in the man is remarkable. I haven't seen him look better in a long time. He was more conversant and seems quite happy. I think the interaction with people has been the primary reason for the improvement.
I was looking at the weather forecast for the next few days and it seems that we are in store for quite a change in our temperatures. Today it's supposed to reach 80 then the rest of the week they are calling for highs in the 60s. At least it is supposed to be sunny. Sounds like it should be a week to try and get some fishing in.
I soon as I can get some more coffee down I need to check on the eggs in the incubator. I put 29 eggs into lockdown and they should start doing something today.
UPDATE FOR NOVA!!!!!
The girls are snuggled in their new pen, happy as can be. Everyone is laying now and my DD thinks that is the most amazing thing EVER
The first batch of Duck eggs is on it's way to Consumers Energy..... on a motorcycle
hope they ride well or DH is gonna have a saddlebag full of yuck!!
I have been trying to get the pictures from my phone on to a post... not happening.... Maybe I need to email them to myself first. I will try that so NOVA can see where not her girls are
Have a good day all, I'm off to hang clothes on the line and bake..... lots of baking!!!!
I just had an idea!!! For any of you that are going to the bird show in Charlotte on June 9th.... My DH and I will be going and I was thinking of maybe having a smallish BBQ. Would any of you be intrested in a little meet and greet before Chickenstock?
We live about 8 miles from the fair grounds... Just a thought
Good morning, Michigan folks.
We left town for a few days. Our first weekend with a chick sitter went well, and our 3 chicks looked gigantic when we returned. They are 5 weeks old now, and I'm anxious to get them out of the house.
The coop construction is well underway. I've been reading up on runs, and I'm looking for insight on the floor. We're planning to put hardware cloth on all sides and the bottom (we have a lot of impossible roots in the yard, and won't be able to dig a trench to bury). I'm wondering if there are any MI climate-specifics I may not have considered. So... which do you do: sand or composting goods for the run floor? Or is there another option I should consider? We're looking for a material that would be the most comfortable for them, and the best for smell control for us and the neighbors.
Thanks in advance!

Opa, it happens that way here too. I just don't understand it. I was brought up that you offer to help set things up and then help clean up. When we have get togethers here, my DIL helps most of the time, my sister...not so much.
I am glad there is improvement in Hope's step father.
Good luck with your hatch.
Welcome Amy PT! Check out the siggy line in my, Opa's or RaZ's for info on the upcoming chickenstock. We like to use use sand in the runs for the chickens. Better drainage, less smell and they love to bathe in it.
Opa, glad to hear that Hope's step father is doing well! That's fantastic news!
Well after catching 2 coons in 2 days the trap was empty this morning. Which makes me kind of glad. I know it needs to be done and I'll continue doing it but I have to say that going out and dealing with that business is not my ideal way to start the day.
But my flock is safe so far, electric fence gets completed today, too.
vjwilmith, good luck with the homeschooling adventure. I homeschooled my two youngest and it was wonderful getting to know them better and spending more time with them. I love your coop and your chickens are pretty!
Is anyone in west MI interested in buying a "camper coop"?
where is the door for the chickens to get out? I have an old camper and will be doing this to mine, thanks for the idea
kimmie, there was an access door on the side that we used for the pop door. My son gutted the entire inside and I painted it. We did leave the upper cabinets in there for storage.
