LOL! Spray paint him and see if she notices.

Seriously though, Kim, if no one wants/will take him and you're going to lose your chickens over it just let me know. I'll be down there next weekend and I'll bring him back with me. I actually have zero roosters right now so if he keeps his attitude in check he can go in with the hens.

I have to go to work right now or I would totally dye him blue...

Thank You! Right now, he is a big wuss. He was too scared to go near my cat that was oblivious to the white bowling ball- she was sunbathing, and the duccle pullets kick his bare behind. I make him squeal like a little girl. Of course we all know that changes in an instant with roosters. I know he is a meat bird, I know his fate- I just have a wimpy household and we all root for the underdog- so each week he made it, we were like, "yay! He lives!" but he had to go and wreck it by sounding like the great ZOMBIE-SUMMONER.

In fairness to him, my next-door neighbors dog has been braying for three hours nonstop, and I just went out there to see if he had treed a raccoon or something, but no...the neighbor four houses down is out in his yard. That is the cause of the braying. It is much worse than Chimi- however, if someone calls on the dog, I am certain a ZOMBIE would crow his heart out while animal control was there.

Splash V splash = all splash

Splash V blue = 50% splash, 50% blue

Breeding splashes together leads to lighter colored birds with less splash markings with each generation - better to breed back to blue or to black (Splash V black = all blue)

What she said... :)

So for these marked #2
The eggs marked #2 are from a pen with splash Naked Neck frizzle green-egger rooster with black and blue Naked Neck green-egger hens."

splash frizzle X black= all blue, some frizzle
splash frizzle X blue= blue, some splash, some frizzle??

You know, I think was absent during genetics classes.

LOL! Yeah, the last CX roo that got to stick around here was a wuss too... until he wasn't. By that time he was about 25 lbs and would just run full tilt into the back of your legs. It was like being attacked by a giant bowling ball. That boy was solid.

Frizzle is more complicated, as it is incompletely dominant. One frizzle gene should lead to 100% frizzle offspring, but it does not. And sometimes non-frizzles will carry a single copy without expressing it, so can produce frizzle offspring. The big thing to avoid there is breeding frizzle to frizzle, as that produces offspring that have a double copy of frizzle, and the feather quality is very poor on those birds. They can also have other health defects as well.

The mental image to that was priceless. I imagined a feathery, lopsided, rolling chicken bouncing off people :D

Does anyone post anything on craigslist here for chickenstock? I know I don't think we saw it last year and I don't recall seeing it this year. Between us we probably look at craigslist at least 20 times a day (we take on scrap wood, metal and plastic for building coops, dog houses and outhouses) so I would see it. If no one has I'll do it since I have an account.

Ya know, I was just thinking about why I never put it up on CL... LOL. I suck thats why. LOL

My kid is now giving me a hard time about going with me to CS. And why? Because I won't take him anywhere right now. HELLO! SKATMONKEY! I am baking! Anyway. I picked him and his bro up a little bow and arrrow thingy toy, and it was all cool, UNTIL I said they couldn't aim at the tv or the chickens. LOL. It wouldn't hurt the chickens, but I still don't want them terrorizing the hens. LOL. they have to put up with the roosters.

13 POUND CHICKEN! OMG, would he even taste as tender as the 8 weekers? DUDE! You could sell him for $30! I mean, if you were a processed bird seller that is. LOL

Dh and I are back from our mini overnight getaway. Always fun to do. Now it's time to haul the whole family grocery shopping...and ChickenStock shopping!
Another beautiful morning is underway and the rain yesterday seems to have broken the heat somewhat. I know that it is cool enough that I can wait for the grass and bushes to dry a little before going to pick more raspberries. Yesterday's picking only resulted in enough for perhaps one batch of jam, but the bushes are loaded with berries that weren't quite ripe enough so hopefully today. Due to the lack of rain the berries are small but since they are just across the street from me, and they are free, they are well worth picking.

My neighbor planted these several years ago but it doesn't maintain them. The patch is about 20' in diameter rather than in a row so with all of the dead canes it is a little bit of hassle to pick. I've started my own and they are in a row with support wires so next year picking should be be much easier. Also I water them when I water my garden and berries need water to produce a decent crop.

By this time tomorrow I will be on the road heading for Chickenstock and I am certainly looking forward to seeing everyone from past events and all of the folks who will be joining us for the first time. I already know that the day is going to go by much to quick and hopefully I will get the opportunity to visit with everyone. I never would have dreamed that raising chickens would lead to meeting so many wonderful people.
We have SO many black raspberries on our property. The boys spent a good hour picking the other day and had so many of them. I really don't know if it's possible to even reach all ours. They like making smoothies with them.
BTW, your chickens look fantastic!

does it?
I think I did. frizzle blue black splash naked neck green eggers...just dont like the barred ones. I think she did say it in her ad, I just was too geeked to pick up on it. Regardless, I paid for 12, and got 20. 9 are marked '2' and 10 are marked Tx, one has a question mark.

and my talent for hatching roos means they will all have yellow spots on their head when hatched, lol.

I think the surprise hatches are the best ones- and with uggos, they are always a surprise :)
I can't wait to see what hatches! But Zebras are a far cry from the vultures you were going to hatch.
