This is the reply I got from Lisa, regarding the eggs she sent me.
Ive read it three times and my brain starts going "
barnie.gif
" when I get to about the second sentence. So, I am going to copy it here and perhaps Robin or Olive can make sense of what they read. I understood BLUE, Black skinned, and the fact that all of them will probably hatch with yellow spots on their head. And zebra striped which I dont like.

"Oh, I meant to tell you about that one marked Tx ?.
It could be from a pen that has a blue barred Naked Neck green-egger rooster and barred green-egger hens. The last 2 pens I had been in were the Tx and that pen and marked the egg Tx, but then I couldn't remember for sure which pen it came from.

The eggs marked #2 are from a pen with splash Naked Neck frizzle green-egger rooster with black and blue Naked Neck green-egger hens.
The eggs marked Tx are from a pen with splash Naked Neck frizzle green-egger rooster with splash Naked Neck fibromelanotic green-egger hens and a barred Naked Neck green-egger hen.

Usually, if any Tx chicks hatch with a yellow head-spot, they will be blue barred and male. But if that egg marked Tx ? hatches with a yellow head-spot it could be male or female IF it came from that other pen."

WHAT?????!!!!

Here's what I get in a nutshell...

If it crows it a roo, if it lays an egg it's a hen!

Good luck figuring that one out.

NOVA...

how about if I put Chimichanga in with the silkies and we call it even?
Just DO NOT tell my kid please, what you will do with him. She only gets attached to roosters and goosers, apparently. AND this morning, he announced to everyone on this block anyhow, that it is time for him to go. My husband wont take care of it- he told me to take him *Chimi* with me tomorrow.
SOOOOOOOOOOO, I can just pretend he is a silkie...

Oh, I see how you are. I've been willing to give poor Chimi a good, loving home for months but nooooooo.... you're going to let Nova EAT that poor boy?!?!

Okay, first things first... Disclaimer: Color Genetics are so NOT my thing. You see, it doesn't matter what color they are when you're eating them so I've never had to learn.

I'll give it a shot, though.

You'll get blue, black and splash chicks out of the eggs marked #2. Some may be frizzled. (I would like to say right now: I do NOT want any frizzles. You can have 'em.)

The eggs that she marked Tx and knows about for sure are from a Frizzle NN EE Roo and either a NN Black Skinned EE Hen or a Barred NN EE hen. This is the part where the post from the other thread comes in.

sex link barring(B) is tightly linked to sex link Dermal Inhibitor Id, and what makes silkies to have black skin is Fibromelanotic(Fm) Fm needs id+(wild type counterpart of Id, id+ is recessive and Id is dominant)... your first cross will be Id/id+ males and Id/- Females(if you used a cuckoo/barred roo over a silkie hen) or Id/id+ roosters and id+ none barred hens(if you use a cuckoo/barred hen mated to a silkie roo)...

In a nutshell, sometimes barring interferes with the expression of black skin.

Translation: IF the "Tx" eggs you got were the ones she marked Tx correctly (the Tx eggs she mentioned at the bottom of her explanation, the one having to do with black-skinned birds) this yellow dot will indicate a blue barred male. HOWEVER, if your "Tx" eggs are the ones she mentioned at the top of her explanation (the ones she has no idea about because she marked them erroneously) that won't hold true.

That's how I'd interpret it anyway.

Also, I think it'd be a lot easier for people to read if you just skip the "green-egger" part in all the chicken descriptions and add a simple "all these chickens lay green eggs, it's a good chance yours will too."

"The eggs marked Tx are from a pen with splash Naked Neck frizzle green-egger rooster with splash Naked Neck fibromelanotic green-egger hens and a barred Naked Neck green-egger hen"

translate that into English for me.

I thought that too..... I think !

I also agree with Olive regarding the shooting vs other means of dispatch. I always appreciate her directness, but thought her response was a bit passionate is all... everyone's opinion is certainly of value. If someone doesn't have the constitution to kill an animal, I totally respect that as well.

That said, I had just had that experience last night. My garden has been decimated by a family of ground hogs. I shot the second one last night. Now, normally I'm actually a good markswoman, have hunted/shot for since forever... though my shot was effective, it was not clean. I found a trail leading into tall grass and set my corso in after it and she pulled it out for me and I finished the job. As much as I hate ground hogs, I still feel sorrow over killing it. But, I want to eat too. The only pleasure I got out of it was watching my dog work to find it and bring it to me. She lives for that kind of work and she does a good job for me.

So, I dug up all my hosta last night that I plan to bring. I think there's 6 or 7 of them.. a few are pretty big and can be split into probably 3 plants or more. IF anyone wants one, I have them in trash bags, but you may want to bring plastic to line your vehicle as I soaked them down really good last night.

tonight, I'll be sorting out the birds and making sure they're ok. I suspect the uggo I'm bringing is a roo....

PS... RAZ, I was not in on that rps game so I call fowl! lol! I had to laugh at what crabby's mom said, now we know where some of that ignorance comes from!

I've got a bunch of turkey eggs for Mich to take!

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Sam.......... those birds look YUMMY!

Explaining the end result of all the above listed genetic mumbo jumbo is really quite easy and can be summed up with only two words.

UGLY BIRDS
Oh, so just the sort of birds Mom2 likes to hatch!

No, I do not want "Chimi". I am not into processing, I pay someone else to do that, and they would not be happy if it brought in meatzilla. I mean, I would have to explain that it lived on a nuclear dump site, and well, I do not want to have to do that.

Got my tire plugged up this morning. I am so glad that my dad taught me to be self reliant. AND have a garage full of tools that'd be useless to the average broad. Anyway, so no new tire needed. I used the big heavy duty plugs on the little hole so I have every confidence that it will stay put. I am sending John to get me that spare today also. I am not driving 80 miles with out it.

I got it figured out. Or, I will, once they hatch and I say OHHH LOOK...that one has black skin, and that one has zebra stripes, and that one OOOOHHHH that ONE..thats the one I want, but look! Its a roo....

Well, so far I've boiled 36 oz of pasta but it looks so small.... how much pasta to feed 100 plus people? I usually cook for 2! Maybe I'll do another box. My mom always said better too much food than not enough. Hope 1muttsfan has room in her car!

Hal is off to pick up those setter thingies for those Duke traps, too. I wish he'd come with me but he's an ornery old cuss and probably would really make 1mutts' car kinda cramped.
