Sorry you lost Pork Chop, Daron. That is just bad news. But congratulations on becoming a farmer-gardener.

Did you all know that you are limited to 8 people that you can PM? I tried a mass update but had to stop at 8 people. I'll try again for those of you that I missed.

Thank you all for your support.

RaZ; that is so awful the things that are going on there with you, and Mom. Please, do consider reporting this. Don 't try and fight back, it could exacerbate the situation and you need to be the "upstanding" citizen. That is until after you have exhausted all; other avenues. My brother had to leave the UK after sorting out a situation himself with a baseball bat and involving the middle joints of certain people's legs. (This was after he had done all the good guy stuff).

Daron: I'm so sorry for the pork chop. You have had such a run of bad luck this year. Keep yer chin up laddie, an yer breeks untwisted - things will look up for you!

Nova: also sending wishes for your sister. My mom was diagnosed with cancer when she was 45. They said she only had a 10% chance of survival. She went to one of the b st cancer centers in Europe, and she lasted for another 30 years! So, I'm keeping fingers crossed that the same will happen for your sister.

And if I've missed anyone, my wishes are that everyone is well and happy. AND, keeping out of the heat.

Off to finish the tasty duck breasts for Himself.

Something the prosecutor said today... Basically that no one anywhere has a pet chicken.

How many people consider their chickens to be pets? I'm going to compile a list.

Porkchop is dead.

We gave her all the shots, and 2 of my youngest sister and I stayed up late trying to help her give birth, but my parents called us in for bed. At 6 am I went to check on her, she was still warm with a part of the the piglet's head out of the birth canal. Poor girl, even though she was the ugliest one and was for meat for our family this fall, I felt bad for her. My siblings buried her with her piglets in the garden, but I am sure they did not dig very deep. May have to put something heavy over her until I till up the garden in the fall.
I had to use the razor to cut the piglet out, and as soon I pulled the piglet out, I was spattered by blood, water, and gas from where I pulled the piglet out. Then I cut her side to see if there where more piglets in there, there were 2 more, but they were huge! Much bigger then the one I had cut out. There were no way they she would have pushed them out.

Daron, I'm so sorry. It never matters what the intent for them, it is tough to lose any, ever. I know your grief is fresh, but please take this as a learning experience. Try to never leave a pig who is soon to farrow alone without supervision for even 24 hours, but definitely not 48. And in instances like this it's VERY important you treat ASAP. I know life is busy and all that, but you have to drop everything to get the treatment in there -- it is one of those very inconvenient but necessary parts of being a livestock farmer. She was fighting an extreme uphill battle on Sunday night when we first talked, waiting that additional 24 hours until Monday night to treat was very likely the difference between life and death for her. Sometimes lessons come the hard way, give the other pigs a good scratch and know that you tried.

RaZ, woah. Your poor mom. I know you're a smart cookie, and are probably documenting and reporting. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. If you're sending out a new round of PM's, put me on the list. Our chicken keeping is illegal, too. So is our compost bin.

Farmerboy, I'm sorry about Porkchop. Congrats on the new job.

Our 12 week old pullets (we hope) are spending their 3rd night in the coop. They're not eating much at all. Fair to chalk it up to new home jitters and heat?

Oh, Sorry about PorkieChop Daron. I woulda been in tears.

Man... Anyway! Picture time. New camera, so... you'll just have to deal with the pictures. HEHE
For Mom2's daughter...

She has now decided that Roger is "ALL THAT" and does not leave him at all since her friends went to Camp Frigidaire. She is very interested in the chicks.

This one is just too cute... them all peeking out.

The Mr. Friz and Essy... Or Essay... depending on what the SS turns out to be. Jace... Need I say more? The black on in the coop is the serema pullet.

I need to get pics of the polishes heads... They look identical to me, and with my luck, Randy picked me out all boys. HEHE. Getting revenge on me. LOL

Olive - this is not snarky this is an honest question. What do you do when a pig has babies stuck that are too big to come out?

Raz- that is astonishing! These people are taking this way to far.

Daron- sorry about Porkchop, glad to hear about the farm gardener job though, sounds perfect.
