The little ducky was still breathing this morning. Momma hasn't moved since I checked this morning, but there were 3 more pips. Later today I thought I saw 2 little head peeking out underneath her, but can't be sure. There were 9 eggs total this time.

I know quite a few Nikon shooters who turn out INCREDIBLE stuff. Just don't tell them I said so.

They do become obsolete very quickly as far as features go, but the nice thing about it is that once you've bought your first you will always have a backup body throughout your upgrades.

That and when having camera envy I always find it helpful to remind myself of a little story:

A famous photographer was invited to an exclusive dinner at a NY Socialite's home. Upon arriving, the hostess greeted him and immediately started gushing about his work. As she finished telling me how much she loved his photographs she said, "You must have a very expensive camera." He smiled graciously and joined the rest of the party. Later, after dinner had finished he looked to her across the dining room and told her how delicious everything had been. She thanked him profusely and then he added, "You must have a very expensive stove."
I love that story. I'll have to keep that in mind!

This is my first DSLR. I never thought I'd have the money to get one since I can't work anymore so I just figured I'd be stuck with my P&S forever. My daughter nagged me and nagged me to get one, she'd use her credit card. I kept saying no, I wasn't going to owe her money. She pushed for another month and started to order it with me sitting a few feet from her. She said "You better tell me which one you want or I'm just gonna pick one!" haha well that's when I sat down next to her and found one. At least now that I have one I'm not as embarrassed when I do portraits.

I have a great praying mantis memory...no actually, I have two- but only one I can share with you on this public board...

My sixteen year old can be such a girly girl- cheerleader blood, present since birth. She was always scared to death of bugs- the type of scared where she would run across the yard screaming and holding out her arm to get to me, whereever I may have been- so that I could smack the mosquito off....just so long as she didnt have to touch it herself. She was a precious little girl, though, two three years old. Just scared to death of any type of creepy crawly. (even now, she loves to go fishing, but will only use corn or hotdogs as bait- no worms)
I was driving down the road, she was strapped into her carseat, I had an old station wagon, no A/C, windows down- with cranks, not automatic buttons to push from the front seat. Heavy traffic, main road and she starts screaming BLOOD-curdling screams. Someone just shot my baby type screams.
I look back there, and there is a praying mantis hanging onto the window for dear life--- reaching its front leg in to grab on to ANYTHING...including the car seat that is just out of reach...I couldnt stop, traffic was too heavy, I could not get over- nobody would let me get over..and she just kept screaming..
When I finally could stop, she was in a mock asthma attack, and covered in sweat. Poor little baby.

To this day, if I show her a picture of a praying mantis she almost passes out.

OMG that so sounds like my daughter. She's 21 now and still acts that way. It could be a spider no bigger than your pinky nail and she's screaming like she saw a ghost. One morning when we got up a few months ago she said we'd be proud she killed a spider. I asked her why she could do it then but not any other time. She said "You guys are usually awake" lol

Thank YOU for all your time and help, Olive! You are the best! I mean it! Even though people may call you nasty names for they say that you are not a nice person, but having met you and your family in person, I can't see why they would say spiteful things to you. As the token of my appreciation, I will give you my first hatch of my Uggo project, that I will be hatching in the Spring.

DARON!! You little stinker.  :lau   I don't think I have laughed so hard at anything on this thread... ever.  In the infamous words of Sheldon Cooper, BAZINGA!

What a crazy weekend/week you had.  How's Bella doing now?

I can see why your mom would be worried about a C-Section after her experience.  It's definitely something that carries risks with both Livestock and Humans.

:lau
I did hatch out lots of chicks from my former flock last week, over 50 of them, plus what I got from CS. The breed that had the best hatch rate are, you guess it- Turkens. I have be wanting to mess around with breeding just for fun, and thanks to MOM2 for inspiration, I will create my own line of UGGOS!! :D I got some of Jen's Show Girls and silkies to hatch! :celebrate That will help in my breeding project. What I have in mind is a dual propose LF Uggo. I will breed for eggs, meat, hardiness, AND broodiness.

Bella is fine, just fat and sazzy. I don't think that I had mention here, but Bella went into her first heat 5 weeks after calving Maybelle. If she stays on average cycle like most cows, the next heat cycle will be tomorrow, or did she do yesterday, I wonder just now. I will need to keep a close eye on her as she is not very active looking during the cycle. Just a long mucus showing from her rear was all that she was showing that she was in heat, plus a little more pushing around on the steers. I want to AI her, but my new boss said that she does not AI any cows until 70 days after they have calved, to give their bodies time to recover from birthing. I may do the same thing, so I will have to wait until the cycle after the next one.

Speaking of which, I used to have an exotic animal petting zoo. Used to travel with it and was booked from early spring to late autumn. Made good money too. I have had soooo many exotic animals including but not limited to a bear cub. Used to be at Uncle John's Cider Mill for 5 weekends in a row in the fall.
How long ago was that, they used to have those regularly at the malls in GR.. kids loved them,,,, my kids are all grown up now with kids of their own sooo lots of yrs. ago

Mabie i'm on to something, but i'll be danged if i know what they crossed with........... The first year DH had all sorts, last year i grew them by the chicken coop to try to keep them pure, but then somehow little cherry tomatoes ended up in the goat pen, so.........
