No, getting a full size roo wouldn't help with egg production...but would help with egg fertility. How old are your hens?

The ones in question are about 6-7 months old.

I agree with Michelle. Roosters don't affect egg production, only fertility.

Were you getting more eggs from them this past winter, or are they just beginning to lay? Either way, I'd say the weather is a big factor in it. With the weather being so sporadic, they just need more time for their "cycles" to get regulated. Hang in there...when they start, you'll have more eggs than you know what to do with!

Oh my gravy! Glad you figured out how to post your pics! Cute chicks!

Got my pie in the oven, went to the feed mill, and stopped by Grandmas house for a quick visit and some freshly baked cookies! Yum, gotta love Grandmas house.

Somebody needs to seriously kick my honey buns! I did not go get chicken food again today. I don't know what my problem is (too busy playing with chicks maybe?

cockerels or roosters do not have any bearing on egg production whatsoever. it would only increase fertility of the eggs as stated earlier.

edited because i missed the post with the age of your chickens.

also, have you switched their food lately? do they have access to oyster shell?

mine laid all through winter without a change at all. different breeds do better with winter. and the change in the recent weather has not affected them either, but that doesn't mean yours would or would not be affected.

there are a ton of variables with chickens. i think you just need about eleventy more chickens!

if you heat the coop or light it and then stop that can mess with them.

all this being said, make sure to check all of them for mites. that will definitely mess up laying.

Anyone want a Granny for a few days? Mine has been driving me nuts the last two days talking about baking this and baking that. I want to do what ever she wants but if we bake everything she wants I will weigh 300 pounds by August.
