If they were mine I'd give them the scratch. Better still I'd try to let them come to me to get it. That way you get to enjoy the scratch as much as they well.

Thanks Opa, I already have them eating chick starter from my hands. The Isa Browns are always the first to come to me. They like to be held too. I will give them some scratch tomorrow.
Good night all.

I don't know the answer but I am bumping over to the next page

scratch may be a little big for them right now. it will depend on how big the pieces are. and if they are on sand the are most likely picking up little pebbles and rocks to grind food, so if they are little pieces, it should be okay.
no matter what, scratch and other treats should not be more than 10% of the food intake for the day. it is not a complete food for poultry.

i bet they were happy! ours are having a blast. the goslings and ducklings have been exploring the yard....this is from a couple of days ago.

Hello Aaron! My name is Kathy and we are in Lapeer also so... howdy neighbor. Are you in the city itself or further out?

Hey neighbor! I live in Metamora now, but I'm in the process of moving into Lapeer. The new house is further out, near Hunters Creek.

Good morning all, coffee is on. Another day will be starting in a couple of hours and it's going to be a good one. Picked up more asparagus yesterday for David to plant at his house. In a couple of years maybe we will have a pretty decent patch going. It sure takes a long time to raise that stuff, but it will be worth the effort.

I would give they some scratch too. Also soft wheat bread. Grab an old slice laying around and start feeding the chicks little pieces and soon they will come up and eat that slice when you are holding it. Great way to get them to come to you. I start to call "chick-chick-chick" to train them.

I know precisely where that is! I drive past Hunters Creek everyday. Yay! Welcome to the area

Last night was a sad, sad night. When I came home for work and went to love my chickies I found that I had lost one. My poor, poor baby Phoenix that I got from MJ has passed
hit.gif
I noticed the other day that he/she was quite a bit smaller than her sibling but assumed that the baby was just going to be small. Don't know what happened but it makes me so sad to lose a chickie. Not only that I seem to lose the ones I'm most excited about.

We will trudge on but she/he will never be forgotten.

Morning all! Looks beautiful...if only the temp out there matched up to that gorgeous sunshine.

Opa...that asparagus sure will be yummy. Ever tried pickled asparagus?

HBH...I'd give them a little scratch from time to time, too. Heck, way back when, that's all they made to feed chickens.

They'll pick through it and find what they can eat.

I want to apologize to the newbies that I missed in welcoming. I don't come in this thread much anymore, and when I do, I don't go back through all the pages I missed. Sorry. Anywho....

Morning all!

Sorry to hear about your phoenix LMC, it hurts to lose a little one. I have a gosling that is half the size of its sibs right now at 2 weeks and I have no idea why. I am wondering if I will lose him too and I will be so sad.

Glad today will be a nice day, I have lots to do!
