We have a chicken sitting on duck eggs right now

Cit- I may be getting Mallard eggs today. Have to find out how long mom had set on them, if at all. If they have not started to develope then they can be hatched out? What should I look for if I candle them?? I need yer expertise !!

Use a really bright flashlight, a LED flashlight usually works well. Look for veining in the early stages and dark spot or area the farther along the embryo is. If it is alive, and you have a good flashlight, you can see it moving around.

um, tororider...where have you been? almost had to make a MPR! hope all is well with you!

MJ -- if you ever need a weekend away, come to the UP. It doesn't have as much stuff as Kentucky, but you would love it up here. It would be great to actually meet a fellow BYCer. Maybe you could even bring goodies!!

Crystal -- I think we're going to lose the other bunny. I noticed this morning it was acting really sluggish. I just tried feeding it before I went to work and it wouldn't eat. Thank you for the help.

of course i would bring goodies. it'd be wrong without them!
let me talk to Rick and see if we can squeeze in a short trip up. i've NEVER been to the UP or Mackinac Island! isn't that pathetic!

how kind of you!

Thanks for the info Vicki2x2. We did candle them today with a person who has Mallards. She did'nt think they looked good. There is no veins, dark, and no movement. I told the lady who gave them to me that I would put them under my numerous broody's and give them a job

. I think that she feels bad, it was her dog that ran the hen off her nest. They waited 2 days but she never came back
