Weather is great - it's really hard being a teacher at this time of year - the 8th graders have checked out and the 7th graders are just squirrelier than ever. Only 3 more weeks of school! I can't wait, in fact, I'm taking tomorrow off - I have too much work in the garden to finish on weekends, especially when it rains and I can't get out there.

I see why schools used to get out on Memorial Day and not go back until after Labor Day, if you're trying to raise food in our short growing season.

BTW, Michigan has a shorter growing season than Juneau, Alaska, who-da thunk?

(and not because of 24 hours of daylight, that's a whole different topic)

we're home! loved every minute of our trip!
i missed all my byc friends from Michigan, but we made tons of new BYC friends in Ohio and Kentucky.

i haven't read back the past few pages, but i did see about Blueberry, Derek. hug little Raigan for me and tell her i am praying for her heart not to be sad.

Loved it. Fruit loops, while she was tucan samming it muahahahah. It took me a sec to figure it out (hadn't had 1st sip of coffee yet) and then I took a big sip... got it, and sprayed my monitor.

we totally didn't see the toucan and Hannah spied it. she's like, 'MOM! look! toucan sam for your friend!'

so Elizabeth high tailed up onto Rick's shoulders and we did the picture. the toucan was not too sure Elizabeth was friendly. he turned away right after we got the pic.

we all thought you'd laugh.

MJ glad your back and glad you had fun!

Catray -- didn't forget about the cinnamon swirl recipe you wanted. After making the bread dough and letting it rise the first time. Roll it out (I eyeball it -- but probably about 8x16) and brush 2 TBSP of melted butter on it. Then sprinkle a mixture of 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 TBSP of cinnamon all over the buttered surface. Roll up tightly and pinch the seam and ends -- just as you would normally. I used MJ's Amish bread recipe for this -- so I baked it for 40 minutes (baked it a little longer because of the filling). Let cool and eat could put icing on it or we made french toast. Makes a heavy french toast, but very very good! Another recipe that looks good is on this website www.suzannemcminn.com and click on her recipe/farm house table section. She's got other yummy stuff on there, too. Enjoy!
