Hi Myrna, I am glad you are enjoying the silkies. I would leave Mommy hen there for a bit longer. The babies can go for 2-3 days without eating or drinking, that is why they ship them as soon as they hatch. You might get a couple more fuzzy butts soon!

Hi Again,
Yup, cigars are in order, but rats, I don't smoke!!! They sure are cute little fuzzies!!! My poor husband , does the eye roll stuff cause I called all our sons and told them. I even had to tell all my friends that I email.
I will give them another day like you suggested and see what happens. Our new silkies that we just got from Vicki are venturing outside and meeting our other silkies. They all seem to be doing alright. Now I had to come up with some names for them. Jo for the buff and pepper for the black and brown one.
Going to check on the new Momma before I go to bed.

i feel the same. we also walk that line. we think all forms of treatment have their place.

we like the idea of finding the ROOT of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms.

if you want his name and number, just pm me.

Hi All,
We still only have five little fuzz balls, but they are doing alright. The other two silkies are venturing out a little, but eatting and drinking alright.
Sorry to hear about the sick chicken. My husband doesn't understand how I can get so upset when one gets sick or wounded. They are just as precious to me as the dog or cat. I had a couple a few months ago that had an eye infection and I got some powder that you put in the water to help them. Also I would go out and clean the area often and put antibiotic salve on it. They got better and look great now. Since the others would not let them eat, I fed them too. I had often heard that dry cat food gives them protein so I crushed it and made a paste for the chicken and actually spoon fed it. Just getting some food in them, made them a lot more perkey and helped them out. The homiopathic route sounds pretty good. Where is this doc at? Myrna

This is the shed i would like to convert to my coop, with attached dog kennel. Seems like it wouldnt be too difficult to section off an area inside, and still have storage etc. Main problem is hubby thinks with new shed he is building by code means old shed has to be torn down....At the very least I have the winter to use it and see where i end up in Sprintime....can always reuse parts of old shed to build new relocated coop.

I'd have that shed turned into a coop in a day. Window on the south side...hang food and water....2x4 roost...
Seriously, Devide it in half or so, hang a used if you can find it storm door (you may have to trim a bit of the aluminum off the bottom to get it to fit) in the middle with nest boxes you can access from in the storrage area (old kitchen cupbord with doors on from your side would work well) cut a door to the dog kennel area that you can open/close and you are there.

Well my chickens are finally starting to get the idea about laying. Friday I had 6, Saturday 7, Sunday 6, Today 8 although I think one hen might have sprung something lay that long egg.

The Welsummers started out laying small eggs but they have quickly increased in size. One today completely bottomed out the Jiffy egg scale. That had to hurt.

My 2 year old is playing as I check the posts. He just started yelling "egg!egg!egg!"

I thought he got into the eggs on the counter, but no, he is pointing at the computer all excited over opa's eggs!

Pretty cold this morning!

Way to go show that rooster who is boss!

OK it never warmed up here today....is the last remains of summer gone for good? I hope not!

Hey opa and anyone else in Livingston County:

I am going to be at Vg's in Howell fundraising with a group from my church. We are going to Honduras in February. We are collecting pop cans and the community share points from receipts as folks leave Vg's.

Hope to see some of you there!

Side note: I have misplaced my credit card. It has been several weeks and haven't found it. It is somewhere in the house or van. Well, I just found it.........it was under the keyboard! Last thing I used it for was to purchase something online....amazing!

Exactly. But our building permit goes thru april I think....so i would have it until then....and then the Mi Right to Farm supercedes so not sure if it actually has to come down....

I am winging it. LOL

Unfortunately the shed is about 1/3 to 1/2 full of old stuff with nowhere to go right now, so my sectioning off would be quite a bit smaller than I would like it to be.....Most of the "schtuff" in there has been there since we bought this house over 10 yrs ago. (ima packrat) Not to mention the TONS of spideys in there. hubby needs to go clear em out before im goin in lol

I am motivated now by my chicken dreams.
