Those would be black raspberries then. I've heard they're hard to find outside of home-gardens.

Would you ship them to the UP and how many do ya have?

My buff orps are 10 weeks old today - how long should we keep them on the chick food? I'd like to put them in w/the rest of the flock, but they're on pellets - is it OK to transition them over to pellets? thanks!

yes, you definitely can switch them over. for my personal self, my birds go off grower as soon as they start to feather.

(that's just MY way, not 'THE' way. you have to do what works for you.)

MJ, you don't think they'll have any trouble chomping those pellets down? Can you tell I'm a nervous Nellie!

My broodies are doing great BTW! Are you going to be at the event in Lansing on the 1st??

they will not necessarily 'chomp the pellets down'. (that made me laugh, by the way thinking of it) they will peck at them and break them down.

mixed flocks can use lower protein levels. especially if you let them have access to grasses etc. i have a friend who raises ALL his chickens on strictly seed wheat and free range. seed wheat is about 10% protein i think. they are all strong as rocks and HUGE.

there is no competing and it's only my opinion. i have no weak birds. i also keep my turkeys in with my chickens on this same regimen (including meat turkeys) and they have strong legs and excellent feathering. it'll all come down to feeling your way and seeing what works for you.

You know I was just kidding about the competing, right??
Yes, our gals are out free ranging all day every day, so perhaps it's not a "true" issue! Thanks again -

yep, i know you're kidding. i'm just making sure any lurkers or newbies know i'm not competing or whatnot.

you'll totally be fine. those orps are like tanks!
lol.png
well, prettier and with more feathers, but tanks just the same! um, what about some pictures of said orps????
