Good morning all. Another day to be thankful to God for all we have. Like many others this ever worsening economy is having an adverse affect on my life, but having gotten back into raising chickens certainly makes up for the loss of many other things I used to do. The time I spend with my birds occupies a lot of my time and the joy of the new friendships this site has afforded me in inmeasureable. Thanks to all of you.

I already have been working with the birds this morning. I've started a 6x8 addition to my main coop and it sure will be nice when it is finished. Having all of my supplies and equipment in one location will make bird care much easier. Plus the addition will add 24 square feet to the bird area. I guess that means I will have to look at adding some more hens to my layer flock.

I guess that I'd better go shower and shave so I will look half way presentable. Got to take Granny to church later and I'm sure the congregation would prefer that I don't smell like a chicken coop.

Good Morning All!

Wow... that Rat Terrier looks EXACTLY like our Rat Terrier except that ours is on the big side of the large variety... nearly 30 lbs. I'll have to post a picture tomorrow.

I should be taking a shower as well, as we also have church today. I tried out that Chocolate Coffee cake with Mascarpone Frosting yesterday for my parents' anniversary and am taking a couple slices to the Pastor today.

Things are crazy around here already because of the county fair coming up. We're caring for the plants like they're gold, keeping the chickens clean (rather, trying, in the case of the cornish), starting last-minute-training with the dogs... plus all the sewing, crafts, practise baking, canning, etc. Oh, and get this. The fair's premium funding was yanked this year due to the economy. That may mean no premiums for the kids.

Well, God bless your day today! I'm off!

Good morning Everyone! Still no rain here to speak of... a tiny sprinkle teaser and that was it. Hoping to do some fishing today.

The fair sounds fun, but how sad about the premiums for the kids, Sarah.

Yes the Fowlerville Fair is this week.

The pig is up at the fair. Amazing how strong those animals are. Especially when they don't want to go somewhere!

Off to weigh the meat chickens and help bathe them. then they head up to the fair.

Sarah

Folwerville Fair has no premium money either this year. But are fair is also refusing to pay for the 4-H judges.

Afternoon! Didn't make it to church this morning. I am starting a 4H group. YAY! Anyways, it will mostly consist of younger children (5-8 yrs) so they are considered cloverbuds. We won't be doing anything at the fair this year (too late), but next year we will. So all this talk of fairs has got me excited thinking about what fun the kids will have. My oldest (5.5 years) has always loved the fair. She'd love a horse. I know they are expensive to keep and she needs to be older so she can help with one. Makes me laugh -- if my hubby looked back he probably never would have thought that he'd have chickens or be helping in a 4H group or most of all stay out at the fair when kids are older and are taking livestock. I had been in 4H (took livestock) so we stayed out there to save on trips back and forth. He just thought that it was so strange/silly to camp at the fair. Now he thinks it would be okay/fun. My how things change!

Hi everyone!
Its been a while again since I have been on here. You guys are chatty as always! Hopefully things will start to slow down a bit around here and I can catch up with everyone again. This week we are putting a deck on our new pool. The fair was last week. Hope everyone is well.

Ended up taking a trip to the Kalamazoo fish hatchery. It was pretty neat, though we got rained out. They had plenty of tents set up though so they kept it going for the whole time as planned. I'm beat.

Well I am exhausted. The roosters and turkeys went in today. The place we went was 45-60 minutes away. They were to be there by 7am. So we left the house by 6am, up at 4:45am. That would of been fine except that my husband had a "great" idea that we should go see The Half Blood Prince. We didn't even get home till 1:30am. Talk about tired. The chickens look good. They weigh between 4 and 5 lbs. They were 16 weeks. The turkeys were 5 months. The tom was 29lbs. and the hen was 21lbs. They look huge! Well off to get washed up and ready for bed.

Hi! Chickenstock is a bunch of BYCers in MI that want to get together to meet and maybe to sell or buy chickens. Mainly, it's to have fun!! Lots of food and good times. If you to the index and check uner "social" you'll find Chickenstock, Swap. I'm in Davison, so if you need a ride...let me know. PM me if you have any more questions if you want.
