Use an ace bandage to hold the bird while you doctor him. Use an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin but NOT plus. I always like to give them some Poultry Drench straight as well as adding it to their water. I personally would but a bird down before taking it to a vet. You can soon pend enough in vet bills that you could buy a flock. If he doesn't start getting better then the humane thing is to put him down. If you are going to raise chickens you will have these type of things happen through no fault of yours. Take solace from the fact that you have done everything possible.

Briana, Catray and Opa

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I don't have an ace bandage but do have a stretchy small bath towel and some Velcro. So in the morning I will try to get him all cleaned up with the help of a friend as I live alone.

I did put the crate top back on the bottom and covered with a towel. He was sleeping with his head in his wing so I think he is feeling a bit better.

Opa what is poultry drench? I looked for everything I could find at TSC but did not see anything called that.

Also should I maybe give him a penicillin G shot? as he is not drinking the tetracycline water. And if so, does anyone know the does? Im sure my vet will give me directions in the morning when I call him..but Id rather give him one tonight if possible,

Thank you all so much for all your knowledge.

EDIT: Found a post on here to give 3/4 cc of Pen G for 7 days. I hope that is the right dose as Im going to start him one tonight.

Also can you give baby aspirin to chickens? As Im sure he's in pain.

Good Morning!

Oopsy Daisy- sorry to hear about your roo! I hope he recovers. We did take my daughters pet chicken in almost 2 years ago. Cost $40 just for the vet to look at her. The vet felt sorry that DD was going to spend her own money on this chicken, so he ran roughly $200 worth of tests and gave us anitboditics for free. The chicken lived for almost a year, but Rachel still remembers that her whole profit with her egg business went to one chicken.

Done exercising this morning....I hope I get in shape soon

I canned grape juice yesterday. I got 55 quarts done. One jar broke in the canner. I am done with grapes now, and need to get applesauce, northern spy's for pies frozen, and raspberry's frozen. I need to get going on the raspberries though, I am pushing it on getting some.

Opa- I have to go to the Extension office today, so hopefully we can swing by your place.

Enjoy your day!
Sarah

Good morning friends! I think the rain is actually done for today. If it starated it wouldn't surprise me. I have the day off! But I have a million things to do - dentist, pay bills, etc. All in a day's work!

More tomatoes to get ready for the freezer, gotta pick some more raspberries---I thought for sure they would be wiped out by the frost. Also gotta see if MIL still has grapes---thanks for the reminder Sarah!!! I also want to squeeze in a trip to see my horsie girls since the weather is better today.

Good thoughts and prayers being sent out to sick/injured pets. Also to the humans that need it. Boyd and ZC---you are definitely on my prayer list.

Who all is planning on Fowl Fest on Sat?????? I am planning on going with the kids, probably in the morning. Oldest DD is excited to see some salmon favorelles---she would like some for the fair next year to show. She also wants to check out how it is, as she wants to maybe do showmanship with Shadow next year.

Oopsy Daisy Sorry to hear about your Roo, I hope he gets better.

Last time that I spoke about was the dentist well thought that they fixed it now I have to have it pulled no dental insurance they want 900 for a root canal and then 450 for a crown I went into the wrong business.

On a good note I am know in school working on my degree.

Hope everyone is well.

Thanks for the good wishes! I just got back from the Doc and he said that I had the worst test results, at 6%, that he has ever seen in his practice. Normally people go to the Dr. with problems at 20-25%, but not me! I had to wait until my GB basically was not functioning at all. Now it's time to call the surgeon to have it taken out. Doc said right away no waiting as he is concerned that it may burst.

I sure wish I had gone to my family Dr. first instead of the specialist that told me it was a stomach bug.
