we got about 2-3 inches.

it was like a white-out though, while it was snowing. i couldn't see walking in the dusk to close up the coops. just kept praying, "Lord, don't let me fall or get eaten by anything!"

it's so pretty this morning...gotta go feed the birds and then get to church!

When I have those thoughts, I think back to 1983 and the summer I spent working in Floridas heat, humidity and water moccasins....then I remember why I stay here.

I HATE snakes.

We got enough snow last night that I need to use the big tractor and 6' blade to clean up.

My driveway is about 800 feet long so no shoveling

and spiders. In sw Missouri where 2 of my sons live you have to deal with black snakes getting in the hen house eating the eggs. Then you have to watch out for rattlesnakes and copperheads. Go fishing and cottonmouth water moccasins are a problem. Then if that wasn't enough, when you get home, you have to be alert for brown recluse spiders. I hate snow & cold, but I hate spiders and snakes more.

When my oldest son lived in Louisianna, his next door neighbor kept losing ducks. A small stream ran between their two properties and they didn't realize that an alligator about 3' long had taken up residence. Joe just happen to see it taking a duck and caught it. It was getting quite fat on that steady diet of ducks. Sure glad that we don't have to add them to our list of predators.

I would be happy to oblige ma'am but I can't find one.

That summer of 83 I lived with the in-laws....yeaah bad mistake, but...they had a drainage ditch behind their house and a small alligator came up into their lawn while we were there. At that time the young fella you see in my above picture blowing snow was 1 1/2 years old. You can bet we never let him play in the yared or ever be out of a arm lengths reach from that point on.

Michigan has the Missauga rattle snake. A lake wish fish (Saubee) has been known to have a population of them, so I am very aware when I go fishing there.....and I stay in the boat!

I guess there is a down side to living anywhere. For me it's winter in Michigan... it hurts more every year...lol.

Jab- you got a beautiful flock. I open the pop door but mine refuse to come out. Chickflick thinks I need to shovel the run. I could use the exercise, gotta cut back on the Ho-HO's so I'm sexy when I meet Sam and Tom at the Chickenfest

I open the pop door so they have options. I shovel the doorway and a path to the back kitchen door. I also shovel a path to the back of both coops, so they have trails to follow.

The broody is a hatch from last year. I believe she is from one of my pure light brahma gals (looked like a brahma egg) and a pure salmon faverolle roo (banty). She is standard size and has the sex link coloring of a faverolle. She was so cute when she was a lil pullet....
