I quick dog present story. I was visiting a friend. When I arrived at his house he had a plastic bag wrapped around one hand and was holding a bulging grocery bag with the other. He proceeds to grumble that once a week he would have to police his yard to clean up after his wire haired pointer and his son's huge German shepard. Why he was the only one in his house to do it was irritating.
It was early April and he came to visit me. Know how punctual he is, I was waiting in the front yard with a plastic bag on one hand, and the "dog presents" in another bag. When he arrived he commented on how little was in the bag. To which I replied "You would think that someone else could help do this once in awhile. I'm the only one that thinks it needs to be done and I just had to do it last October. He looked at me shaking his head saying "you really know how to hurt a guy don't you". Small dogs do have some advantages.

I did have 2 Jack Russell terriers but sadly I had to put one down this summer. I still have one and now my mother's Bichon. David did have 3 yellow labs but 2 were quite old and are now gone. So this winter he brought his remaining lab to work quite often. Yesterday, I was surprized at how many presents she had left for me and how quickly the bucket filled.

I have a Golden Retriever, a pit bull and a miniature dachshund. The little wiener dog would just as soon go in a pair of shoes in the house, or anything laying on the floor- so really gotta watch that one.

I just discovered a predator out in my chicken yard- and I am uncertain how to keep it out. I can't cover half my backyard- so how do you design a fence line to keep cats out? Neighborhood stray cat. Big ole tom. Never lets a human get close to him. He was sitting out in front of the pophole of the coop this morning. I looked out the bathroom window and saw him. When i yelled for my husband to come look (funny, I suppose- wife in bathroom yelling HONEY COME LOOK), the cat took off.

I ALREADY have hardware cloth going up and curving outward to the neighbors yard, my idea was so the cats couldn't come over...but this cat managed anyhow.

Good Morning Gang.

It is looking nice out, and I can see much grass out there. And many land mines too. Guess I know what I'll be doing today, and sounds like I'm not alone. We have a Pit/Rott/Lab mix and also a Siberian Husky. This is the part of thaw that I don't enjoy.

Steve - good luck with the move today. We want more pictures. And I broke down in envy and showed my wife your henhouse thread.

Mom 2 em all - Get that tomcat outta there. Don't want him getting any ideas that he can stop in and get a snack. I second the air rifle..

It is another great day out there. I let everyone out and they ran out of the run an all over the yard they went! I have missed looking out the window and seeing them all over the yard.

Good morning!!!
Not a dawg person but I do have a good one now. A stray Chickflick brought over. About 10 months old when I got him. No manners at all. He learned fast

. Raise in farm country and don't take any BS from a dawg. He's a Border Collie and probably a Britteny cross and is now 9 years old.
Missed an opportunity yesterday. Was outside closing up the barn and Corkey was in the field with something in his mouth. Said "drop it" and he did. I though it would just be a half frozen pile of horse dung. Nope, on closer inspection, it was a small possum playing dead!!! I hate the little disease infested buggers so I just grab him by the scruff of his neck and tossed him over the fence.
Went in the house and as the last of the sunshine left this beautiful winter day it then hit me-OMG- my good dawg was just trying to provide us with meat for our potluck stew!!! It was a small one so young and tender. Add taters, onions, carrots, and rutabagas and it would have been just enough meat for that stew!!! I probably tenderized it some more when I tossed it over the fence!
So sorry everybody, blonde moment. I would like to say they are rare, but I still ain't found Chickflick's camera.

You guys are too funny. Still buried in snow up here in the UP so don't have to worry about land mines LOL. I pick up as they go, when I let them out (with supervised visits as the birds of prey would get them if not watched) I pick the frozen ones up from the time before, I have an old plastic bucket with a lid on it that I have a heavy duty plastic bag in and I just throw that away with the trash once a week. I have 3 Chihuahua's. Right now I have 11 pups with those Chihuahua's, 5 PomChi's, 5 shelties, 1 lab/collie mix they are all about 2 months old and ready to go LOL. Lab leaves Tuesday to my daughters, he is a grandpup and they went to florida for the warmer weather LOL it was in the 30's and the 50's there LOL no tan for them. One PomChi leaves today for lower MI and one sheltie is going back to the breeder I hope today as well.

I find it is better to pick up as they go. Please keep in mind I raised Great Danes for 10 years and had to learn a few tricks because dump truck rentals in the spring got expensive.

Sometimes I miss a few but heck it isn't bad to pick up a few in the spring, much better than hours of picking up slush poop. By the way I have no ground showing and yes it melted a lot yesterday but not enough to really show that it did up here.

Have a great day stay warm, don't want anyone sick because they felt it was too warm to bundle. It is still winter people.

Wow did the snow melt here!! Our front yard like like a giant pond!! We have land mines everywhere too!! YUCK! We have a dobe, a boston, a shar-pei and our newest addition is Maxine, the bulldog. We occasionally do rescue and Maxine was found wandering down Grand River in Lansing. Though in decent weight, she was covered in fleas, had a double ear infection, nails were overgrown, hocks were raw from laying on cement or ? and she had a UTI. She is older, probably 5-7 years old. We brought her home, bathed her, got rid of the fleas, the ear infection and UTI, oh, and the worms, forgot about them and she is a great dog. Housebroken, now that her UTI is cleared up, great with the kids and other dogs, just an absolute sweetheart. No one has ever tried to find her. We left word with both animals control in the area, watched for classified, searched the net, etc, nothing. So, Maxine has found a new home. She reminded my husband of the Mack trucks and Maxine was his feminine version of that. It really fits her, she is a hoot!
