Good morning all you Michigan yackaholics. This is the busiest thread on the forum. I enjoy reading it every day. Starting my mornings with a good laugh, the smell of MJ's fresh backed goodies and listening to all the enablers gets me off to a good start. Thanks and keep up the yacking. Everyone have a great day.

I know, that is what I am pushing for Steve, more property, bigger barns!! Well, the muscovy's range the pasture with the geese & goats. The seramas are currently in my basement because they were in a heated shed (70 degrees!) so they couldn't go outside plus they needed to go into quarantine anyway, then they will join the serama flock. We went to get a pair of calls for one of my 4-H kids and a pair of east indies for my daughter. Then fell in love with them all! The one pair of calls belongs to the 4-Her but live her, since she lives in Lansing. This is her last year, she is already in college, so when she is done this year, they will stay here. They all go their own outdoor hutch, for now, but after breeding season when the males won't tear each other up, I have a pen for then and they can be togther. I know, I know, it is a sickness!! Ella Mae huh???

Did you happen to get them from a man in Onondaga? Just curious because that's where my stock came from, and I was in that heated shed!

Yes, that is where they came from! I had talked to him before, but either they were sold, he didn't have what I wanted, etc. This time I made it out there and ended up buying the last of his birds. I got some beautiful little ones, so I am excited! Not as colorful as my boy Jerry, but definitely smaller.

That is good to hear Vicki. My roo is class B and my hen is a C from him.(Doug that is) I have the first lone chick they hatched and she is almost a year old - and only 309 grams. She is tiny. They are characters for sure.

MJ is "pleasant" and that bread from yesterday sounds great.

Cathy - congrats on the new chicks, it is always exciting to bring something new home. I bet your kids were glad to make the trip too!

Sooner or later we'll have all the Michigan folk going to MJ's. BTW - Is there an update on the Michigan meet yet? Everytime I check this thread there are multiple pages added.

Well another cold and pretty day in Michigan. Took Granny to Lansing this morning to see the Opthmalogist. She had blot clots in the back of her right eye and it had almost completely obscured the vision in that eye. A relatively new process of injecting a drug directly in the the retinia area of the eye. The 1st injection was Jan 2 and she already has had a marked improvement in her vision. If fact she can now see well enough to thread a needle. I don't care what anyone says the good old days are now. Just a few years ago whe would have been blind.
I decided that I am going to keep track on how many eggs I get this year and the count as of last night was 335. Does anyone else count their egg?

Please do let me know if there is going to be a MI meetup

Shingles are all on the henhouse, nice day out there for a February. They should all seal down with no problems.

Don't know wether to celebrate with a beer or a cold Coke.

I don't know if any of you remember the rollout nest box I posted pictures and plans for. It was a two nest box. I had taken it out of my coop and replaced it with a six nest box and it was sitting behind my shop and destined for the burn pile. Yesterday I gave it the wife of a good friend who has chickens that have suddenly become egg eaters. My friend bought a hardware store in Washington state and his wife and kids are here till they can sell their log home and join him. Today I receive a two way text message from her that I can't read in it's entirety. What I read is "Sam, you'll probably think this is funny but Gordon left me............" My first thought, what do I do, do I call her right now, do I wait a little while, do I get involved? Reluctantly I call her back. Turns out that she just wanted to thank me again for the nestbox and to tell me how she intends to take it with her when her and the kids finally move to Washington. What she thought I would find funny was her installing it in her coop. Seems the "Gorden left me .........without a single tool fit to use".
