Maybe I will get a cheap o at family farm and home tomorrow and just try my luck. I have nothing to lose right? Oh you guys are naughty! I hope Big Russ doesn't take my 'puter away so I can't be enabled by you crazy chicken friends anymore!

Hi all of you fellow Michiganders! My family(hubby, dtr in college & 20 year old special needs son) live in Mason on 10 acres just south of the MSU campus. We have a small flock of egg laying chickens(a couple of Buff orpingtons, a couple RIRs, a couple of White Brahma hens & a rooster(an oops), a standard black Cochin, a couple of the Easter egg laying hens(Americaunas?). plus we have a couple of white dwarf silkie hens & a black dwarf cochin hen who are too old to lay anymore. They are just so darned cute! We also have a couple of Missouri Foxtrotter horses, and the usual pair of barn cats, an indoor ex-barn cat and sheperd/collie? mix female dog. I lost my job last summer after over 20 years in the health care field(laboratory) so I threw myself into maintaining and harvesting our garden. I taught our daughter to can & freeze. She loved it & wants to help me enlarge our garden and help set up a farm stand to sell our excess. Already people are purchasing eggs from us so that helps defray the feed costs. We compost our horse & chicken manure for garden use(raised beds) and spread it on our fields to improve our hay crop. Fortunately I raise our hay so we can keep costs down feeding the geldings. We are involved in 4H(recycling,horse,swine,poultry) and really enjoy that.
So where is the MI Chickenstock going to be in 2009? Marilyn

. Roads were only snow covered, just have to be careful.
Even though it was just a mini spring blizzard its still a depressing sight. I'm sure its going to melt away soon!

to all the new eggs!!

Good morning everyone!

Looks like we didn't get as much snow here as was expected. I can still see the grass poking throgh the snow.

Day 15! As the big day gets closer, I am getting more excited. The mutts already have new homes, distant cousins wife gets 10 and my best friend from the U.P. gets 8. I'll be keeping Miss Prissys BBS Orps.....cept there are a couple of the roos from that hatch going to a couple folks here ( I hope )

Wish it would warm up.....I'd really like to get the henhouse siding on.

Hope everyone has a great day!

You know it is odd to tell someone you met their niece online......
