Hey. Anybody out there from southeast Mi. Monroe County area? Me and my husband are going to order chicks for the first time and wondering if anybody has a suggestion on who to order from or a local hatchery. We want Barred Rocks, Brahams, and Silkies. Thanks.

Welcome, Briana! It would be well worth a drive up to Miss Jayne's for chicks! She is a couple hours north of you. I think she has Barred Rocks.. I have a beautiful one from her. She is hatching up a storm!

Howdy Everyone.

I've been down and out the last three days with a bad case of bronchitus. I don't remember ever sleeping so much.

Vicki - Glad you are back and everything's ok.

Worst part about my weekend was the fact my wife planned a surprise 30th b-day party for me, and I missed my own party. She had to cancel last minute and had a hall and over 50 guests invited. I was really bummed. Been on meds over the weekend and just starting to feel better today.

And t top it off, I went out yesterday morning and found our first chick we ever got, back in 2006, dead. Looks like she went peacefully. RIP Sunny

Glad you're feeling better, Derek. Suks that you missed your own party. Bronchitis really takes alot out of you. It'll be a few days till you feel like yourself.
Sorry about your chicken, hope your kids weren't too upset over it. Take care of yourself.

9 degrees. I am so tired of single digit temperatures. Spring can't get here soon enough to suit me. I'm wanting to head for Croton Dam and float down the Muskegon River with David and see if we can't tie into some steelhead. I want to do things that don't entail ice unless it's in a glass.

Sorry about Sunny

Steve... I hand turn my eggs and when day 18 rolls around I put them in paper cartons to hatch. I've hatched twice and used this method both times with good results... much easier to clean up afterwards. BUT I have noticed that the chicks have a hard time getting up and out sometimes, but they also like to rest in the cups once they are empty.

I think though this next time I am going to leave them where they lie and see how that goes.
