We think the shell looks more pushed out now... it is not zipping at all, yet. maybe it was just resting.

The first one to pip late yesterday afternoon, has not made a ton of progress. The membrane looks like a light tan color and moves when the chick breaths. The chick is active, sticking it's tongue out, etc. but the 1/2"- 3/4" zip goes up and down, not side to side. Boy I wish I knew what i was doing, lol. Humidity has not gotten below 58 and i brought it back up to 60-61...

It's too early to function, coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but I was able to push the correct keys on the laptop to also google the jersey woolies. Way too cute!!!!! I am in the process of trying to talk my husband into possibly building a little chicken hutch and a portable little coop so if my DD does decide to show at the fair, she can at least have her showmanship bird at home so she can handle it more often.

What breeds would you suggest for a beginner poultry project for 4-H? My DD is 10 but smaller for her age. What would be an easy showmanship bird for her to raise? I am pretty much clueless, but motivated to learn!!!

Sounds like you'll just have to wait and see what they do. Sometimes progress is painfully slow... and then you'll get one that goes from pip to hatch in no time flat! Making you worry even more about those slow hatchers

For Showmanship a bantam is a must. My daughter took a LF and was so tired from holding her that the judge let her set the bird on the table instead of holding it. (suppose to hold the bird to do showmanship) First year learning! Rachels favorite is her old english game hen. Very small bird. We have bantam cochins too, but my 10 year old said they were too big to hold for a while to show. She is trying her call duck this year for showmanship, we will see how that goes

Rachel is firing up the bator this morning and gonna start eggs tomorrow. So in 21 days or so we will have some Ameraucana bantams, lavender color. If anyone is interested.

Off to make some breakfast.

Thanks! I think I'm going to need it... LOL No real plan and it might fall in on itself... don't worry.. I'll stress test it before adding chicks! LOL

I know... those little Lionheads are ADORABLE!!!!! I swore to myself that I wouldn;t get any strictly pet rabbits... as I don;t need a second addiction! LMAO I mean.... if I were breeding such adorable little bundles of fluff... how would I EVER be able to part with them all?!

The Angoras I will keep for their fiber..... of course... it'll probably start the rabbit addiction anyhow... and I'll end up with one of these.. and 2 of these.... and why not one of those....

Good morning everyone!

Not much going on here today, I need to do a estimate for repairs to City Hall. I was surprised to get a call from them to do work, they said I was referred to them by the Police department......that's funny since I haven't done any work for any police folks. It's just good to get my name out there any way I can.

I have worked for State Police and the County Police.....but never City.

I guess I better write a iron clad contact....don't want to spend time on the other side of the bars. Come to think of it, I have worked on a few bars too....
