What a wonderful day today. Finally got the tractor built and in the field for all the meaties and their 3 EE friends. Found one of the CX's DOA this morning next to the feed dish. I took it out of the brooder, but forgot to dispose of it. When the boys got home from school they went out to play by the chicks and found the dead one. I was really worried about my youngest sons reaction. He has become very attached and gets very upset if any are acting weak. His comment "Can we eat him?" quickly reassured me that my constant reminder that these are meat birds has sunk in.

So, it can be chickens, eggs, chicks. Does it have to be something alive, or can it be like trinkets or something like that. The only thing I can think of is like dishtowels. (how silly is that) Do they have like raffles, to raise money for future swaps or anything like that? Just curoius. I have never been to one and think I would like to go, but really want to know what goes on and stuff.

Good morning everyone!!! Life is busy but very, very good! We have doggie school tonight - woo hoo! Ivy Kitty is adjusting wonderfully. She is the one now that is terrorizing the pups! I didn't know kitties don't need any sleep at all

The boy wants me to find some type of herding classes now for Mac. Who would have known that a boston could be a livestock dog????

I am heading to Carson City for the day. Both sides of my family are from there. My mom and I will go take care of the graves today and do a little stroll down memory lane... It has changed a lot since I was a kid, but still a nice town. Have a good day. (Hoping to get to the Middleton Diner for lunch- yum!)

Boyd -Looks like another great day for us

Crystal - I cut the potato in pieces, a section that each piece has a eye starting to grow or is growing. we have clay here its like a Brick

i dig a deep hole about a foot or so, then i mix in some of the dirty bedding from the egg girls, with the dirt, and make a mound, on top of the mound i plant the potato with the eye up on top of the mound, a couple inches down, so i have about total of a 2 feet where the potato's can grow, I was told that they like lose soil so the potato's can grow bigger, if the ground is hard you will get small potato's. my neighbor Mix straw w/ his soil, but i have a high allergy to mold and straw can be high in mold so i try not to use it.
last year i didn't mix any thing with and the potato's were like the size of a lime, and they were good

so I'll see how they turn out this year with mixing in the bedding, w/ the chicken fertilizer
