Hey there! I have a question, which I posted in the appropriate area (but it was ignored). I was hoping for an opinion or two: My broodies hatched out several adorable barnyard mutts, silkies and showgirls. The first to hatch were the mutts. They hatched Monday night - I suspect they had gotten a bit of a head start on the other eggs, which came from an area breeder. The silkies & showgirls hatched Tuesday afternoon & evening. I have unhatched eggs under both Mamas. If I count the day after the silkie eggs were set as "day 1", today is day 22.
Should I pitch them tomorrow?

How long would you leave these eggs?

Hello Ya'll,
I for one am sort of glad it's raining today as we are doing a lot of running. Had to be in Big Rapids at 8:20 this morning for my doctor's appt. and then we have to go to Muskegon for DH's post op check up. He is feeling much better but is wanting a big juicy hamburger. Still just eating soup. We are putting the miles on the van today. The garden and flower beds needed the rain too but boy does it make me ache.

Cristy, maybe you can go fishing when the rain stops.

I just don't want to have one of those "tossed out the baby" stories to post!

this is a topic that can be researched here on the archives.

what did you title the topic?
can you put a link to the post?

keep them where they are a few more days.

Thanks for sharing your opinion Miss Jayne. I will chill for awhile.
The problem I had with doing a search is that the Hatching thread is dominated by incubator questions. Not so much on broodies. There are some differences, yes?

Afternoon all! Yup, it's almost afternoon. Went out to the coop today and one of my pullets is limping. Not sure why. Had a tiny bit of dried blood on her leg. Didn't look like she'd been pecked at and is acting fine, but limping. Maybe there was some goofing off going on!

yes, definite differences on some things. as long as the eggs are not stinking, i would just keep them there.

ChickeeMomma...hope your pullet heals up quickly.

Ok, here are the pics of my almost 9 week old chicks.

Crystal and I are trying to figure out if they are roos or girls.
Any opinions welcome....

Hey -- if anybody likes marinades..... I've put this together twice now. Once for grilled pork chops (4 thin) and last night for ribeyes (2). It was really good. I did not measure anything out, so if comfy eyeball it. I'll try to put it into measurements.

In a small mixing bowl add and mix well:
3 TBSP cup white vinegar
2-3 TBSP worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup canola or olive oil (or a mix of both)
1 cup water
1 TBSP season salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp dried basil
2 large garlic cloves, minced

Put meat of choice into a gallon Ziploc or in a container and pour marinade over the meat. I let mine sit for 3-4 hours. I turned it four times, but it you flip it once halfway through, it should be fine. Then grill and enjoy. Hope it works for any who try it.
