Good morning, all! No, I didn't just get up... I am working.

I fear my cornish will be too big for the fair. They are four weeks old today, have four weeks to go. I'll weigh them tonight when they go to bed. If they are too big, I'll end up butchering them all for the family.

Chickenstock is ever closer, and I can't wait!

I'm waiting on two packages that are supposed to arrive today... one via UPS and one via Fedex. It's been fun watching them via tracking numbers come from across the US. I wonder which will arrive first...?

Hi Sarah-


I hope your chickens won't be too big for the fair. What is the weight limit? Livingston County is 3 min-10 max. The roosters left 1 1/2 weeks ago. They were too big. So we have 20 hens left to sort through. 12 of them are going. Rachel and Emily are both taking 2 pens of meat chickens, 3 birds in each pen. Weigh in is Sunday afternoon.

Enjoy the weather, I wish it was minus the mosquitos!!!!

Shelly-What feed did you have the turkeys on? i just have them on layer and I was wondering if they still need a higher protein feed.

FYI, I was strongly warned by Howard not to let Turkeys eat layer feed. If I remember correctly it was because it has a higher calcium level that will wipe out the Turkeys kidneys/liver (can't remember which). I would assume that commercial feed would be similar to his, but not sure????

Maybe it was not Calcium then.......but it was something that he includes in his. He made very sure I got the point. Gosh, sure wish I could remember what it was. I'll have to ask when I go tomorrow.

Boy I wish you guys could remember the thing about the turkey feed. If it is important I really want to know. My turkeys and chickens will be together really soon. For those of you keeping them together what do you feed? MJ what should I do? I was gonna switch to my local mill. They mix their own. Layer is only 16 or 18 % protein. Should I mix a higher protein feed with the layer or will that be bad for the hens? I am so confused now.
