I am a Michigander too.I live in East Michigan close to Detroit and Dearborn area.I am new to BYC forum.Still learning things here.I have 14 chickens.2 RIR, 1 plymoth rock white, 2 barred rock,2 light brahma ,2 buff brahma,2 americauna,1 brown leghorn,1 sultan and one aseel hen.
I like reading about handling chickens and specially from people who are in Michigan.
I have three loving sons too.Age 10,8 and 2.And caring husband.

Our gardens are doing well. We got a late start due to overly wet gardens, but everthing is coming along fine. Corn is way past my knees, getting zuccini and summer squash, everything else is blooming and has mini little veggies growing on it, so far so good. Califlower and broccoli are behind due to the evil rabbits.

My garden is doing just okay. I didn't plant any early stuff -- lettuce or spinach. But my beans should finally be blooming out. I've got some peppers on the plants and my tomatoes are bloomed out. Pumpkins are just sad! They should be big beautiful plants, but they are not! I'm glad it's not just me, though. Sounds like there is issues all over the state.

On another note -- To all those who sell their eggs, what do you charge? I charge $1.00/dozen and people are telling me that I am crazy (I know it's low). Just got a call from a guy who is in Midland (visiting from Traverse City. He's brought a basketball team to Northwood University.) and he was looking for eggs. He does have his own chickens back home and he sells them for $3.00/dozen. I don't think they'd go for $3.00/dozen here, but he and others have suggested I charge $2.00/dozen. What do you think? Thanks!

Back when I had extra eggs from my rocks and EEs, we sold them for $1 a dozen. Of course, my grandmother would pay up to $5 a dozen because she "could"... Everyone else loved the price. I know we didn't make anything on them, but it sure helped keep the fridge empty!

I've added 6 11 wk old buff orpingtons to our flock - which I'm HOPING lay large eggs - they were recommended to me by many on this site!
That brings my total to 28! LOVE IT!
