whenever they are tilting the head backwards it's a bad sign. it's like fetal position for people.

Good Afternoon!

I think that summer is finally in Michigan!

Jon just called, he is on his way to the races and he forgot his briefcase, so I have to run and meet him. Have a great day everyone!

We are hatching out bantam ameraucana, lavender color and some ee bantams.

I don't raise anything, I just am in it for the eggs, but
I know there are lots of people breeding beautiful birds here - maybe they've passed out from the heat, but I bet we'll be hearing from them eventually.

It sounds like you have a fantastic mix of birds, can you post some pics?

happy birthday to Jack!
do you know how you can tell you are five??? you can reach over your head with your arm and touch the ear on the opposite side of your body! (right arm, left ear) you cannot do that until you're five. fact. go Jack!

who else had to try this?

I forgot to have Jack try this! I will tomorrow.

What a lightening show tonight! and more rain!

We went to the park tonight with pizza, were there 5 minutes and the rain began. After dinner in the van, the kids were able to play about 20 minutes till the next round of storms.

Jon won at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run tonight! He just got home, the kids will love the trophy.

Good Night all!

Sarah!
That is great, my dh was supposed to go to Dixie tonight and we ended up going for a drive instead. What class is Jon in?

Evening all. Opa -- it was quite a storm yesterday and into the night. It was quite a light show in Midland during the night.
We had a nice vacation up in Northport. Went to Sleeping Bear Dunes and spent half the day there. Oldest DD (5.5yrs) thought she must be in the desert because of all the sand. So funny!
Went berry picking last night and got home to find my BA hen dead outside the coop. When they aren't free ranging they are in the run, but she was the one who would always fly out and back in as she pleased. I highly suspect my neighbors dog did the deed. I had shooed it away about a hour before we left. She was just lying there dead and wasn't ripped apart. Just what I would suspect a bird dog to do with a chicken (it's a Brittany Spaniel). Called the neighbors to let them know about it and that I had saw the dog over a few times before. And they knew it had run off. So guess I should call the animal control tomorrow just to see what happens if I catch it in the act. So the kids were sad. They laid flowers over her. Even our almost two year old knew something wasn't right. She laid her little flowers down, petted her and said awww. Kids are so precious.

One of my dogs is usually afraid of storms, but last night's storm didn't seem to bother him.

Right now we have a little rain falling and some thunder and lightening. Nothing bad like last night

Oh no, I may need some advice??? I just went to let the chickens/turkeys out to free range and ended up breaking up a turkey fight. I brought home 4 turkeys from wonderful MJ at the same time. 2 are white midgies and 2 are bourbon reds. The white midgies matured really quickly and I have 1 tom out of those, beautiful! BUT I thought or was pretty sure I had 2 hens in the bourbon red until one of them started showing off some tail feathers yesterday. Well, this morning the white midgie tom and the one bourbon red were fighting!! Pulling each others snoods and going at it like crazy. One of them is actually bleeding

I broke it up, carried them to seperate areas of the yard and now they appear to be o.k. Question is, and I can't find this online yet, do the Heritage Bourban Reds mature at a much slower pace? Both look like hens but is it possible one is a tom taking a lot longer to mature because of it's breed? If this is the case I might be in trouble
sad.png
I already took all the extra birds to the butcher and don't want to drive out there again until just before Thanksgiving

Darn it!

not sure About turkey either, but maybe she was showing him she is the boss of this turkey town
