Thank you Briana and Sarah! I blanche my beans, etc and love having them in the winter. If I can find a reasonable price for bulk corn on the cob I am going to try this!! I TOLD hubby I needed a bigger chest freezer!!

I know what you mean about a bigger freezer. We still have some venison left from last November, we had some chickens butchered, and now the veggies are going into the freezer too. I really hope my husband gets another deer but freezer room is getting sparse. The 2 big turkeys are in my parents big chest freezer. A total of 49 lbs between the two of them. No way were they gonna fit in our upright.

Your bases are covered with the mention of how to blanch, cool and cut it off the cob. I did that last year and it was quick and easy. I loved getting the packages out of the freezer and eating it. It was like a little taste of summer each time.

Derek-----that is the cutest playhouse ever!!! I am glad the kids got their special place first. Now the chickens can have their chance at living thei high life.

!(#*$^^$@&*($^ 49 pounds!!!!! OMGosh!!! What kind of turkeys were they and how old were they when you had them processed??? Woweeeee!

That was between the 2 of them. They were 5 months, BBW, 1 was 21lbs and the other was 28 lbs.

Those of you who have left over venison could take advantage of the to make some freezer room and some "good eats" at the same time. While I make all of my sausage from scratch I do know that the summer sausage kits work extremely well and you can cook them in your oven. A second option and one that I like doing is cut the thawed meat into bite sized pieces, season and sear in a little bacon grease. Pack the meat into pint jars, add a 1/2 tsp of salt, cover with a brown gravy mix leaving 1" of head space, then pressure cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 10 lbs pressure. Really comes in handy when you want a quick meal.

Don't tell my Hattie that!!!
Actually I find that the turkeys are a little smarter than my chickens. They are very curious and know when something new is in the yard (people, chickens, things in general). Hattie even holds a grudge and lets me know she is PO'ed

BBS is blue, black or splash. I had to ask the breeder what it meant and I felt silly because I saw it a lot on different forums, even did a search and couldn't find it. I figured I was the ONLY one that didn't know what it meant!
