Jason, I wouldn't advise water bathing meats. The pressure cooker not only heats the product it also creates a vacuum to aid in sealing. If you would like to can some, call me. I would be glad to have you come over and we could can it here.

We have been working on trying to get our kids to "FOCUS". Whew, it is not easy. We have an 8 year old and a 10 year old who have extremely short attention spans. Except of course when it comes to their darn Nintendo DS! We've slowly been incorporating chores that they are responsible for such as feeding/watering the dog and cat daily, watering plants, feeding/watering chicks. This is of course, in addition to their other chores... dog poo duty!!! Yeah! Boy, I swear I had kids just so they could pick up that chore!

With Maya and her kindergarten, how are they doing that in your district? Ours has incorporated a two full day per week with an additional full day every other week. I really wonder if it's going to work out for the kids and the parents???

I just got off the phone with one of our local elevators and they order food grade DE. I can get a 50lb bag for $28.99. That is so much cheeper than ordering online.

Right now it is by special order, but they happened to have a bag in. I use it in the chicken feed and in the coop and in the sandy spot they dust bath in. I have almost no flies in the coop. It actually does help.

I bought Stall-Dry and used that in the coop. At first it was wonderful but now I just don't know. I have a ton of flies and it's driving me nuts! I have a little bit of DE (4 lbs) left that I bought from a really nice lady at Chickenstock. I'm wondering if I should just change all the bedding and then re-do with stall-dry or use a little DE? I don't have a lot of DE and our elevator doesn't carry it.

Afternoon all! I will be canning some applesauce and some carmel apple butter this weekend. I'll be using the hot water bath method. So I am happy to take any suggestions you have! I have never canned before, so I am a little nervous.

The bag I have says 2% to the dry weight of the feed. I have a fruit bowl cup I washed and I put 2 of those scoops to my 2 gal bucket of feed and mix it in. So maybe 3 fruit bowl sized cups. Does this make any sense?

for some reason the Lapeer Elevator says they cannot legally carry it. i don't know what that is all about.

i get mine at a health food store in Davison.

just sprinkle your bedding and the food with the DE. you should be good to go.

2% would be 2 parts to 98 parts. so just give a sprinkle. literally like a 'dash' when cooking.

Has any one heard from 19Sarah90 , I'm buying some DE from her, and I'm trying to pay her through pay pal, and the address she gave me keeps coming up invalid, and i have heard from her since Sunday or Monday.

Oh is Fall here or what

I think we had what a total of 20 days of true summer.

MJ were they able to get it for you at the health food store? Great. The scoop I use it little. I actually use a lot less then I thought I would.
Ok, I am soo happy it is Friday, even if I have a busy, busy weekend ahead of me. My cousin is taking me, Collin, and Art to a Tigers game on Sunday. It is fun, but I have so much to get done I will be going over the list in my head of everything to do at home instead of enjoying the game.
